MLB free agency has officially kicked off. A lot of high profile players will be in search for a new (or old) team in the next coming months. On DraftKings Sportsbook, a market is live that gives the odds of a particular free agent to sign with a team. Below, we’ll go over those free agents and the odds of where they’ll take their first at-bats when the season kicks off on March 7th, 2025.
Alex Bregman
The Astros are the favorite to bring back Bregman at +380. On Wednesday, MLB.com reported that bringing Bregman back was the number one priority for the Astros this offseason. He’s been with the organization his entire career after being drafted second overall in 2015. His tenure in the minors was short lived, as he was on the major league club by 2016. While he hasn’t been able to replicate his peak power numbers in 2019, when he hit 41 home runs, Bregman is expected to draw a ton of attention over the next couple of months. While the Astros would love to have him back, getting a deal done quickly might be in their best interest.
The Yankees seem like an obvious fit and could pursue Bregman hard (especially if they miss out on Juan Soto). Third base was a weak spot for them after going through DJ LeMahieu, Oswaldo Cabrera, Jon Berti and Jazz Chisholm throughout the year. The Yankees infield could look very different in 2025, as Gleyber Torres is a free agent and they’ve moved on from Anthony Rizzo.
Blake Snell
If you’re thinking a reunion is in store for the Giants and Snell, well, you can get some big odds on it. The Giants aren’t even close to being the favorites, instead, they’re big underdogs. A lot of teams are going to be vying for Snell’s services, which is shocking after how his season started. During the first half of the season, Snell posted a 6.31 ERA with a 3.78 FIP through 35.2 innings. Then, after missing a month due to injury, Snell was locked in. He posted a 1.45 ERA with a 2.49 FIP through the second half and 68.1 innings. This lead him to decline his $30 player option and opt for free agency.
A reunion with the Padres or heading to the Mets are the odds on favorites. The Padres will be looking to replace Joe Musgrove, who underwent Tommy John surgery and will likely miss the entire 2025 season. Should Snell rejoin the Padres, he would join a stellar rotation featuring Dylan Cease and Michael King.
The Mets certainly have the money to entice Snell to New York. They’ll have some big holes to fill as they could be without both Luis Severino and Sean Manaea, who were signed on one-year deals. Both were extended qualifying offers may not accept. Snell would easily slide into the SP1 role and help anchor a Mets rotation that has a lot of question marks.
Corbin Burnes
A team is going to have to pay a big time contract if they want to land Burnes. Expected to be priced at over $200 million, Burnes is another premier starter on the market. While Snell was great in the second half, Burnes has been the more consistent and reliable in terms of health. Burnes is also two years younger, having just turned 30 in late October.
While the Mets should be very much in the mix, the Red Sox at 5-1 odds is intriguing. Upgrading their rotation should be a priority this offseason and Burnes fits well. With the Red Sox recent unwillingness to spend, Snell would be too risky for them with his long list of injuries. Burnes has been the opposite, throwing at least 167 innings over the last four years. Having someone with the velocity that Burnes is something that rotation hasn’t seen in a few years. If they’re going to be aggressive, Burnes would be the perfect candidate to do that with.

Max Fried
Fried feels as if he’ll be the consolation prize for whomever tries and fails to land Burnes. Fried is someone that will generate a lot of ground balls and throw a lot of innings.. While injuries limited him to just 77.2 innings in 2023, Fried has thrown at last 165.2 innings four times since 2019 (he averaged 5.0 innings per start in 2020).
I can’t help but think he’s going to be a Dodger. Fried is from Cali and the ability to play in your home state, on a team that’s going to be a contender for years and years could be too much to pass. Numerous reports and insiders believe Fried will walk from the Braves, who are currently tied for fourth on the market above. The Dodgers have the money and resources to bring him on and could easily use former Freddie Freeman to recruit him. I wouldn’t be surprised if Fried is first off the board amongst himself, Snell and Burnes. Just don’t be shocked if he’s in Dodger blue when the 2025 season begins.
Pete Alonso
The Nationals are the favorite?
It seems odd to have a team that hardly do anything last year be the favorites to sign one of the top free agents on the market. However, this team is in the midst of a rebuild and their young stars are in the majors and developing. The infield is flush with young talent like CJ Abrams, Luis Garica Jr and Jose Tena. Where they lack a presence is first base. It’s been reported that the Nationals are looking to spend this offseason, so scooping up Alonso could be the splash. The Nationals first basemen combined for a 0.3 WAR last season while slashing .241/.310/.376 with a .301 wOBA and 14 home runs. Those home runs were tied for the second-lowest total in the league. If they’re looking to make a big move, Alonso could be the path.
