Fantasy Football Picks: Can Kirk Cousins Torch Bucs in Week 8?

Fantasy Football Picks: Can Kirk Cousins Torch Bucs in Week 8?

Eight games to parse through this week. Let’s get right into the Pick6 fantasy football picks worth considering from Week 8’s NFL main slate (Sunday 1 p.m. ET).

Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Kirk Cousins

Passing Yards: 242.5

We all know what happened with Cousins the last time he saw Tampa Bay. But in the two games since he logged 509 passing yards during that Thursday night showdown, Atlanta’s QB has logged 457 passing yards.

Looking at his numbers further, Tampa is the only team Cousins has logged at least 250 yards against. But, that’s the thing: This play is also about the Bucs.

After Cousins’ big day, the Buccaneers allowed Spencer Rattler to throw for 243 yards. The Saints QB then proceeded to log 172 passing yards in the ensuing week. In Week 7, Lamar Jackson logged 281 yards. Now, that was a dip from the Baltimore QB’s recent production, but it was still his third-highest passing total of the season. Moreover, he got to that mark on just 17-for-22 passing — which lead to his best yards-per-attempt average of the season (12.77)

Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans

Anthony Richardson

Passing Yards: 185.5

If you’ve been reading this weekly article with regularity, you know this is a play I like to go with.

Richardson continues to underperform in the passing game, only logging 129 yards on 10-for-24 passing in his Week 7 return. So long as he’s not facing a porous defense in the given week, this is a play worth considering.

In Week 8, Indy will face a Texans defense that just held Jordan Love to a season-low 220 passing yards — despite him completing 72% of his 33 passes. But Love isn’t the first QB who’s experienced a season-low in passing yards vs. Houston in 2024. Same thing happened to Josh Allen (131). And while the Vikings took it to the Texans, Sam Darnold logged his second-lowest passing total of the season (181) — same thing happened to Trevor Lawrence (169).

Houston Texans vs. Indianapolis Colts

Joe Mixon

Rushing Yards: 75.5

Four of the seven lead running backs who have faced the Colts have logged at least 90 yards. A fifth logged 77 as part of a three-way backfield that combined for 159 rushing yards. But, 77 rushing yards would get the job done for Mixon here.

Houston’s running back smoked the Colts in Week 1, logging 159 rushing yards by his lonesome on 30 carries. He has over 100 rushing yards in three of his four games, with the lone exception being the one in which he got injured.

Mixon is an unstoppable force, and Indy is far from an immovable object.

New England Patriots vs. New York Jets

Hunter Henry

Receiving Yards: 33.5

Last time these two teams met, Henry only logged nine yards on 2-for-3 receiving. But, Henry was catching passes from Jacoby Brissett then. Things have since changed in New England.

When Brissett was under center for the Pats, Henry had one game where he popped off for 109 yards on 8-for-12 receiving. Outside of that, his season-highs were two catches, four targets and 32 yards.

In Drake Maye’s first start, Henry was targeted five times. That led to 41 yards on three receptions. Then in Week 7, Henry caught eight of the nine passes thrown his way, logging 92 yards in the process.

Henry is finally getting the work he should, and he’s facing a Jets defense that has allowed a tight end to log 50-plus yards in back-to-back weeks.
