The PGA TOUR heads to Las Vegas this week for the Shriners Children’s Open. TPC Summerlin will be the host, measuring as a 7,255-yard par 71 with Bentgrass greens. The field is better than what we saw last week, with Tom Kim looking for his third consecutive victory at this event.
Below I have outlined my two favorite bets for the week.
Davis Thompson to win (+2500)
Thompson always does his best work in these weaker-field type of events. Last season, the majority of his top finishes came at the Corales Puntacana Championship (T18), World Wide Technology Championship (T15), Wyndham Championship (T12), Myrtle Beach Classic (T2), Rocket Mortgage Classic (T2) and John Deere Classic (Win).
Despite sitting third on the DK Sportsbook odds board, Thompson ranks No. 1 in this field in Total Strokes Gained over the past 48 rounds, while sitting second in SG: Tee-to-Green in the same time frame. The 25-year-old will be making his season debut this week after making a deep playoff run to close 2024.
Thompson played TPC Summerlin each of the past two years, posting finishes of T35 and T12, while gaining on approach in both starts. He was T4 after the first round here last year, before losing a ridiculous 3.27 strokes putting in Round 2, which firmly took him out of contention.
With Tom Kim being in this field, we are getting some nice discounts on really talented players, and at 25/1, Thompson heads up that group.
Henrik Norlander to win (+10000)
Norlander continued his stellar play last week, as he posted a T8 at the Black Desert Championship. It marked his second top-10 finish across his past five starts, with the other coming on the DP World Tour at the Omega European Masters back in early September. Overall, the Swede has now finished T28 or better in eight of his previous 15 worldwide starts.
During this stretch, Norlander ranks 12th in this field in SG: Approach and 16th in SG: Tee-to-Green. He’s gained with his irons in six consecutive starts as well. Norlander has played the Shriners each of the past five years, with his best finish of T35 coming last year.
However, he’s playing arguably the best golf of his career right now, and with two-career wins on the Korn Ferry Tour and countless other top-10s on the PGA TOUR, I will gladly take my chances on him here at triple-digit odds.
