The Mets inspired run continued on Wednesday, as Francisco Lindor’s grand slam lifted the New York past the Phillies and into the NLCS.
And folks, Stugotz is HAVING A MOMENT! He may even be able to pick Lindor out of a lineup now!
While discussing the Lindor home run on Thursday’s Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, Dan says the coolest thing about it was the way Lindor went around the bases after hitting the grand slam, almost as if he had expected it. Which is quite a turnaround considering how BAD Lindor had been for the Mets since signing with the team a few years back. But Lindor’s felt like the MVP since the Mets moved him to the leadoff spot and Dan notes he hit that grand slam with such a relaxed emotion as if this was the most casual stroll he’s ever had.
Stugotz said Lindor rounded the bases as if he expected that from himself, showcasing max confidence. And make no mistake about it, just like that, the Mets are this lovable, scrappy underdog with the highest payroll in baseball. You gotta love it! And even if Lindor hasn’t been nearly the player in Queens that he was in Cleveland, Stugotz thinks what he’s done the last three months is legendary. What he’s done for the last THREE WEEKS is LEGENDARY!
Despite all these good vibes, Dan feels compelled to point out that until this recent stretch Lindor had been the face of the Mets’ underachievement. So, Dan is a little floored to see Lindor round the bases as if they’re just getting started in Queens. Just don’t get Billy Gil started on how baseball stats can be manipulated in any way you want. Because he heard people say last week that Pete Alonso’s home run was one of the best in baseball history and now somehow Lindor’s grand slam has overtaken Alonso’s homer. He hopes you’re turning into this postseason, because the Mets are singlehandedly sweeping out all of the historic home runs in baseball history.
