Arizona has had an up-and-down season so far but they picked up a massive win against Utah last week to keep their season alive. Under their new coaching staff, they have been unable to replicate their explosive passing attack from last season. However, they have faced a couple of tough defenses against Utah and Kansas State in the past two weeks. This Texas Tech defense will be much more attackable than the teams they have faced so far.
Texas Tech Team Breakdown
Texas Tech has a great passing attack and a terrible passing defense. They are 25th in the country in EPA/pass on offense and 123rd in the country in EPA/pass on defense. They want to get in a shootout with everyone they play and hope that they have enough to come out on the right side. After a bad start to the season, they have bounced back with two good wins in a row against Arizona State and Cincinnati. This game should look pretty similar as Behren Morton looks to continue his solid QB play.
Pick and Prediction
Arizona has faced back-to-back good defenses the past two weeks but should be able to find more joy on offense this week against Texas Tech. Noah Fifita and Tet McMillan should be able to hit a couple of explosive plays and put some points on the board for the Wildcats. Conversely, Arizona has faced back-to-back bad passing offenses in Kansas State and Utah’s backup QB. Texas Tech should also be able to hit some explosive plays through the air against Arizona that could not be exploited by their last two opponents.
This should be a back-and-forth game between two offenses capable of explosive plays. Both teams should also try to throw the ball deep to exploit weaknesses in both defenses’ secondaries. This is a game that could even go to overtime with the way these teams will trade blows all game. Therefore, I am going with Texas Tech to cover the spread and betting the over.
