The Nationals got a huge game from rookie OF James Wood ($5,400; 30 FPTS) on Sunday afternoon as they won their third straight against the visiting Marlins. Wood got his first homer in the fifth inning on this 1-0 pitch from Adam Oller ($7,900; 4.45 FPTS)
Wood continued his impressive afternoon with another absolute moonshot in the bottom of the eighth inning in the highlight below. The 21-year-old phenom now has seven MLB home runs and a .347 wOBA since joining the Nats 65 games ago. He definitely has showed a ton of potential to be a key power producer for the Nationals going forward.
Wood’s two solo homers created two of the Nats four runs while Luis Garcia Jr. ($4,800; 9 FPTS) drove in their first run of the day and later scored on a single from Keibert Ruiz ($4,300; 7 FPTS). That run support was enough to secure MacKenzie Gore ($9,000; 25.1 FPTS) his ninth win of the season after he threw six innings with just one unearned run allowed on two hits.
In the loss, the Marlins got a home run from Jonah Bride ($3,600; 19 FPTS), who went 2-for-4 and was the only batter with multiple hits for Miami.
The Nationals will go on the road this week with three games against the Mets and four against the Cubs. The Marlins have lost six of their last seven games on the road this week, but they now head home to face the Dodgers and Braves in games that will have an impact on the NL playoff picture.
