It’s a very small slate of baseball tonight, as only five games are scheduled after 6:40 p.m. ET. Something about pigskins is starting tonight. I’ll give you some of my favorite MLB picks for tonight that you can tail on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Washington Nationals at Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pick: Dylan Crews over 1.5 bases +120
Crews has only been up for eight games as a National but he’s made an immediate impact. While the average (.212) and on-base percentage (.278) aren’t great, he’s been hitting for power with a .242 ISO. Of the seven hits he’s had, four of them have gone for extra bases with two doubles and two home runs.
Tonight, he’ll be facing Pirates starter Bailey Falter, who hasn’t found much success on the mound. His overall numbers aren’t good but his second half numbers have been exceptionally bad. Through 26 innings, Falter has a 5.54 ERA and a .371 wOBA. He’s also allowed nine of the 14 total home runs at PNC Park, where this game will take place tonight. With Crews hitting in the leadoff spot for the Nationals, I like his chances of going over 1.5 bases, especially priced at +120.
San Diego Padres vs. Detroit Tigers
The Pick: Padres team total over 2.5 runs first five innings -105
The Padres offense got a nice boost the other day, when Fernando Tatis Jr made his long awaited return. He already made a big impact, hitting a walk-off single for the Padres after they were down 5-0 to the Tigers. I like the offense to get off to an early start tonight against starter Casey Mize. His biggest issue has been right-handed bats, who have tagged him for a .357 wOBA on the year. It gets worse on the road, as his wOBA rises to .362. The Padres are an excellent hitting club against not just righties, but rightes who throw the four seam. Tonight’s expected lineup has a combined .371 wOBA with a .197 ISO against that pitch. Mize has thrown that pitch 37% of the time, making it his primary pitch.
I’m going for the team total through the first five innings because of how good the Tigers bullpen has been. It’s a big reason they’re in the playoff mix and they’ve been one of the better group of relievers in the second-half. Because of this, I think it’s wise to focus on the first five innings team total, rather than the entire game total of 4.5 runs, which is currently at +105.
