Every season on Love Is Blind, production decides to make things interesting by having the couples go down the road not traveled by meeting and seeing for the first time the singles they did not choose. Sometimes it’s dramatic, sometimes it’s a snooze. The pod squad meetup for Season 11 was most definitely not a snooze. In fact, it was perhaps the most dramatic in the show’s history.
The meetup was so dramatic and uncomfortable that it led one couple to call off their engagement, with one partner saying there was no way they could say “I do” after the meltdown. Read below to find out which couple called it quits in epic fashion.
What couple broke up on Love Is Blind Season 11 Episode 10?
Rob and Michaella broke up in Love Is Blind Season 11 Episode 10 after an epic meltdown from Rob at the cast meetup where he set his sights on production, the other couples and the pod squad.
After weeks of everything seeming too good to be true, the other shoe finally dropped on this couple. And the glass slipper shattered when it hit the ground. It all started at the get-together where Michaella met Rob’s friends. Everyone has talked about how Rob is an “acquired taste” and while it’s true, that’s even more true about his friends. Specifically his buddy Jay, who asked incredibly personal (and in many ways inappropriate) questions before being cut off by the restaurant. That set Rob off, and gave the audience its first look at Rob’s feelings about production and being on TV. It also led to him rehashing an argument with Michaella that happened off-camera, forcing her to apologize on camera for calling him aggressive. Why would he insist on getting that apology on camera? Well, we found out later on.
Prior to the cast meetup, Michaella isn’t doing great. She says she’s mentally and emotionally exhausted, which is to be expected after that intense introduction with his friends that went off the rails. Adding to the exhaustion is the fact that Michaella doesn’t want to go to the cast meetup. But Rob insists that they go. And that was the first of many mistakes he made that night.
At the cast meetup, Rob is behaving very badly. He goes from “acquired taste” to obnoxious loudmouth real quick, and is clearly uncomfortable with Michaella talking to her other connection in the pods, Matt the beekeeper. He’s making aggressive-aggressive comments right in front of Matt and is worried that somehow she will leave with Matt even though she shows no interest in doing so. As the night progresses, Rob gets louder and more obnoxious and you have to feel for Michaella. He is intentionally antagonistic and obnoxious with how he positions himself in his chat with Dianna, which he worries will have the public ripping them. During this conversation it comes out that in the pods Rob worried about being canceled, and all of a sudden things are clicking into place.
Things only get worse from there, as Rob begins ripping Netflix, production and his fellow castmates before loudly proclaiming, “Newsflash. No one knew each other a month ago…If I fell off a bridge, do you think you guys would care? No.” This is the last straw for Michaella, who goes to the bathroom with Erika where she tearfully says that she cannot marry Rob under any circumstances, which is quite a turnaround after previously saying there was nothing that could change her mind about marrying him. She comes back out and says that while she will love Rob forever this clearly isn’t going to work out and that’s it for a couple which looked like the most likely candidate to actually get married in the season finale.
MY TAKE: Whoooooo boy. That escalated quickly.
First, I have to offer a mea culpa. Just yesterday, I wrote a preview where I said of Rob and Michaella, “this feels like a mature relationship playing out before our eyes, so I don’t really foresee any unexpected or unnecessary drama here. I’ve been wrong before, but I’d be shocked if these two don’t share ‘I dos’ in the season finale.” Boy, does this look bad after that epic meltdown. Everyone talked on the show about Rob being an “acquired taste,” but I was viewing him as something of a Gronk type — a big, fun, loud, obnoxious doofus. Unfortunately, that personality quickly curdled this week into something that was uncomfortable to watch and downright concerning.
In fairness, it sounds like Rob has been through a lot lately, from the death of his father to losing his job to a broken engagement. I think Rob put forward his best face early in this process, sanding away some of his rougher edges. It would have been impossible to keep that up forever, however. Rob’s behavior at the cast meetup was uncomfortable to watch, particularly because Michaella had already expressed how emotionally exhausted she felt. His insecurity about Matt, frustration with production and dismissiveness toward Michaella all collided in a way that made it difficult to imagine the relationship moving forward. Michaella was right to recognize that she could not marry someone after seeing that side of their dynamic.
One thing is for sure — that was perhaps the most epic meltdown in the history of Love Is Blind. And Rob’s concerns about being “canceled” may have become a self-fulfilling prophecy. I wouldn’t be surprised if he skipped the reunion, but if he attends, he’ll face difficult questions about his behavior. It will be interesting to hear how Rob reflects on the meltdown in hindsight and whether he shows any real accountability.
