Did Jax and Stew Break Up on Love Is Blind Season 11 Episode 5?

We went back into the pods for the first five episodes of  Love Is Blind Season 11 on Wednesday and it was certainly not wicked awesome for at least one couple.

But did they actually break up? Read below to find out and see which couple could have ended as soon as it began.

Did Jax and Stew break up on Love Is Blind Season 11 Episode 5?

Yes, Jax elected to leave the social experiment after meeting Stew. But, could a reconcilation already be in the works? Let me explain below.

Scott, aka “Stew,” and Jax seemed to have a lot in common in the pods. They both shared an interest in design, a high-end lifestyle and a love for the Phantom of the Opera.

Stew clearly does not lack in self-confidence, often dominating the conversation in what we saw of their pod dates with long monologues. I wrote in my notes that he loves the sound of his own voice, and he talked about how attractive he thinks himself to be multiple times. He also made sure that Jax knew that the guys in the men’s lounge gave him the nickname “Kennedy,” not only because of his looks but his social status. Heck, he even asks Jax if she wants to marry “the most handsome man that ever existed” and become part of the most stylish couple in the Hamptons. OK guy.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing, however. Stew exhibited major red flags for Jax when he talked about how he’s never been in love before and that he always thought in his 20s that the single life was superior to committed relationships. But, he told Jax that a potential future with her blew away anything else he’s done to this point. Despite always detouring away from serious conversations and seeming to love no one more than himself, when Stew proposes to Jax she says … sure, why not. No joke. What an endorsement and way to start your life together. Sure, why not. SMH.

Anyway, when it comes to the reveal, Stew is very happy with what he sees. Jax … keeps saying how weird it is to finally see him. Ooookay. Stew says she’s not exactly what he expected, but he’s far from disappointed. Jax says he isn’t what she expected either. And oh, she sees him more of a Mitt Romney than a Kennedy. Naturally, Stew keeps talking and talking and talking, while Jax seems to be shut down and already mentally checked out. She even begins to start planting the idea that they might not go with the other couples on the trip to Mexico. Later she is evasive when talking about the couple’s future with production, which was a major red flag.

Despite these warning signs, it’s all systems go for Stew, though! He tells production that whoever is in charge of casting deserves a raise for finding her, which feels kind of weird and gross, and that the reveal was beautiful and everything he could have wanted. Unfortunately for him, he’s about to learn she doesn’t feel the same. We see Jax tell production she can’t do this and she wants to go home. No trip, no goodbye. Oh, and she doesn’t want them to give Stew her information for him to contact her. Yikes.

It’s up to production to call Stew back in and deliver the bad news. It takes him a moment to understand that the engagement is seemingly off, but he says despite the outcome, he has no regrets about the experiment. Despite my criticisms of Stew above, he actually takes the bad news in stride and about as well as one could hope.

But are Stew and Jax truly done? We end the fifth episode on a cliffhanger of the (former?) couple meeting at a restaurant in Boston, so maybe this couple still has an outside shot to walk down the aisle, after all.

MY TAKE: Listen, I’m going to be real for a moment: I did not like this couple. Both were unabashed in their desires for material wealth and production may have revealed how it really felt about Jax by ending the fourth episode where she decides to bail with the classic song, “You’re So Vain.”

Stew clearly embodies several old-money stereotypes and projects a lot of confidence. He’s objectively not a bad-looking dude, probably more of a Peter Gallagher than a Kennedy but whatever, and Jax told Netflix’s Tudum blog her decision had nothing to do with his looks.

As for what did cause her to call things off? Jax revealed to Netflix that their coupling was “less lovey-dovey” and more practical and logistical. And it seems she agreed with me that Stew had something of a cockiness to him that could be considered off-putting:

Jax says she met a version of Stew she didn’t recognize. “He just seemed really cocky in a way, and I was like, ‘OK, this is not what I was expecting,’” she says. “He was like, ‘So what do you think about me?’ It felt douchey.” Whatever chemistry existed in the pods didn’t survive face-to-face contact. “The walls did not come down for me. I was like, ‘This is not romantic at all.’”

As I noted above, we were left on a cliffhanger with these two reuniting at a Boston restaurant, but based on what they told Tudum, it feels unlikely a reconciliation is in the offing.

With Jax’s decision to leave the experiment, five couples remain engaged at the end of Episode 5. Here are the Love Is Blind Season 11 couples still together after Episode 5.
