In fantasy football, running back is arguably the most important position on the field. At the very least, good RBs are the hardest commodity to come by in most formats, and finding ones with any value in DFS is a chore.

With all that in mind, I’m here help.

Let’s break down some touch and target projections for each backfield in tonight’s Monday Night Football tilt between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys.

– Proj Car / Proj Tgt — Projected rushing attempts and receiving targets. Game script adjusts the split: favored teams get up to 12% more carries, underdogs get up to 15% more targets.

– Projections — Built from blended per-game rates (25% 2025 / 75% 2026), adjusted for matchup, game spread, DK team totals, and depth chart role. Out/IR players excluded with touches redistributed. Q/D volume reductions apply Fri-Sun only (after official designations).

Not too much to see here.

Some might call the Cowboys’ backfield boring, but I’d say it’s reliable. Maybe even stable. Despite the fact that he’s averaging just 3.7 yards per carry, Javonte Williams has a total monopoly on Dallas’ RB touches, with 85 rushing attempts and 19 receptions across the team’s first six contests. For some context, it’s Dak Prescott (14), not Tyler Goodson (11), who ranks second on the Cowboys in carries.

The only real concern for Williams — who owns a 76.2% snap share and the league’s fifth-highest red zone carry rate (74.2%) — is Dallas’ overall offensive scheme. The Cowboys have run the ball on only 32.5% of their offensive plays through Week 6, which is the lowest mark in the NFL. That rushing rate has fallen to a microscopic 26.8% in the past three weeks, too. The algorithm has Williams projected for 24.4 touches, yet based on recent trends with the squad’s run ratio, I’d probably guess he ends up more in the 17-20 range.

As of writing, Saquon Barkley is still officially listed as questionable to play in this game, due to a hamstring issue that’s kept him sidelined since Week 4. However, the former All-Pro practiced all week, and NFL Network is reporting that Barkley is trending towards being available.

I guess the important thing to note with these projections is simply the touch total as a team: 23.2. If Barkley is good to go, he’ll surely see a majority of these touches, as was fully the case in his last healthy appearance in Week 3, when he garnered a 72.0% snap share and every single RB rushing attempt that the Eagles called.

Ironically, with Barkley and Will Shipley (foot) unavailable last Sunday against the Panthers, Dameon Pierce got to cosplay as a “bell cow” running back for a week, seeing the field on a whopping 95.3% of Philadelphia’s offensive snaps and registering all 12 of the team’s RB rushing attempts.

It’ll surely be a bit more of a split in Week 7, as Barkley works through the rust and conditioning. It’s also a fantastic matchup to return to, as the Cowboys have surrendered 149.8 opponent rushing yards per game — the second-most of any team in the league.
