The Eagles host the Cowboys on Monday Night Football in Philadelphia. Both NFC East teams are off to disappointing 2-4 starts. Philly is battling several key injuries at nearly every offensive position, which has it priced as a 4.5-point home underdog. The total has been dropping, and has dipped below the key number of 44.
Let’s breakdown a prop betting angle on the Eagles’ starting quarterback, Tanner McKee.
Tanner McKee passing yards pick vs. Cowboys
McKee began the season as QB3 for the Eagles, and now finds himself as the starter moving forward. The offense really struggled last week in a home loss to the Panthers, but the Philly coaching staff did let McKee throw the ball. Part of it was out of necessity, and while Saquon Barkley will return on Monday, the offense can’t abandon the pass.
Running Barkley at a Dallas defense that ranks 31st in rushing yards allowed should be the focal point of the game plan. But the Cowboys will also be honed in on Barkley. Dallas isn’t just poor against the run, but ranks near the bottom of the NFL in passing yards allowed at nearly 240 per game.
I think that gives us a discount on McKee’s passing yardage, which he’s exceeded in his limited opportunities. This will be McKee’s fourth NFL start, all with the Eagles. In the previous three, he’s attempted at least 40 passes, and thrown for 215 or more yards. McKee’s averaged 241.7 yards on 42 attempts over those three outings.
It might not look pretty, and we may need some work in garbage time, but 200 passing yards is a low bar to clear in today’s NFL. I’ll back McKee to continue to get there against a soft defense, even working with limited weapons.
