After a terrific end to last season, Bears tight end Colston Loveland ($9,600 for Showdown) was a consensus fourth-to-fifth-round pick for fantasy football drafts this summer. Unfortunately, the 22-year-old has been one of the biggest disappointments this season. He heads into Week 7 ranked as TE25.
However, Loveland looked like himself again after Caleb Williams returned from a three-game absence against the Falcons. Loveland caught six of seven targets for 65 yards and a touchdown for a season-high 18.5 FPTS, making him the No. 4 tight end for Week 6.
Loveland handled a 19.4% target share while running a route on 70% of his team’s dropbacks, seeing three red zone targets. While Loveland went without a catch in Week 1 with Williams under center, the franchise quarterback’s availability has had a huge impact on Loveland’s usage this season.
Loveland is seeing a target on 22% of his routes with Williams on the field, compared to just 12% with Williams off. In the last seven games they have played together, Loveland has scored 18+ FPTS four times.
More strong performances for Loveland appear to be on the horizon with Williams healthy again, but coming to town tonight is a Patriots’ defense that has been stingy against tight ends this season. New England has only allowed one tight end to score double-digit FPTS, and that was 27 FPTS from Brock Bowers in Week 5. Outside of this, no tight end has scored more than 7.4 FPTS against the Patriots.
Still, this game’s 50.5-point total on DraftKings Sportsbook is the one of the highest for Week 7. Although Loveland might not be on the same level as Bowers, the former is still one of the most talented receiving tight ends in the NFL.
Loveland may not replicate his Week 6 success, but he should still have a decent showing and be a top-10 TE for Week 7.
