The Commanders missed Terry McLaurin ($5,300) in Week 4, and they could miss both him and Stefon Diggs ($5,500) this weekend against the Giants. Both wideouts are dealing with hamstring injuries and missed practice Wednesday and Thursday.
McLaurin and Diggs will likely be sidelined for this Sunday’s divisional matchup. If so, Antonio Williams ($3,800) and Treylon Burks ($3,100) will be the next men up in the Commanders’ receiver room. Between them, which wideout will be the better fantasy target?
Fantasy Football Analysis: Antonio Williams vs. Treylon Burks
With McLaurin out and Diggs active last week against the Colts, Burks caught one of three targets for a 47-yard touchdown (11.7 FPTS). Meanwhile, Williams caught three of eight passes for 21 yards (5.1 FPTS).
While Burks posted the higher fantasy score by finding the end zone for the second game in a row, Williams’ role was much stronger with McLaurin sidelined. Williams saw eight targets on 30 routes compared to Burks’ three targets on 25 routes. Williams’ 22.9 percent target share ranked second on the team behind Diggs and was far ahead of Burks at 8.9 percent.
If both star receivers miss Week 5, Williams should still run more routes and get a higher target share than Burks.
This season, Williams is getting a target on 26 percent of his routes, while Burks is getting a target on only 11 percent of his routes. Williams has also been the more productive fantasy player overall this season, with 30.4 total FPTS compared to Burks’ 21.
Williams has shown promise as Washington’s third-round pick this season, grading 11th among receivers in athleticism at the combine. Burks, by contrast, has been disappointing and inconsistent since getting taken in the first round by the Titans in 2022.
Washington has high hopes for Williams, and he should be the better target over Burks if both McLaurin and Diggs are shelved on Sunday. Williams should be the Commanders’ top receiver in that situation, though they’re facing a tough New York defense that is tied for the NFL’s fourth-fewest opponent yards per pass attempt (6.2).
Still, Jayden Daniels ($6,000) will be back under center for the Commanders, and their implied team total is a solid 22.5 points on DraftKings Sportsbook. Despite the matchup, Williams brings decent upside in an expanded role and could be a viable WR3/FLEX play for deeper season-long formats. For DFS, Williams costs only $3,800 on DraftKings — at that price, he’s a great punt play to consider.
