The final game of Week 4 kicks off in the Big Easy with a rivalry matchup on Monday Night Football. The New Orleans Saints’ offense has looked quite formidable this season, but they’re now operating with Alvin Kamara as the primary running back with offseason acquisition Travis Etienne on IR. Does the veteran halfback have enough gas left in the tank to get the better of the Atlanta Falcons in front of the home crowd tonight?
Here are the best Alvin Kamara prop bets for Saints vs. Falcons on Monday Night Football in Week 4.
Best Alvin Kamara prop bet for Saints vs. Falcons
Travis Etienne was the prized acquisition of the Saints’ offseason but landed on IR with a hamstring issue heading into Week 4. With the running back sidelined for at least four week, reporting from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport suggested that Alvin Kamara is expected to “carry the load” in his teammate’s absence.
That seems like a natural conclusion given the state of the backfield in New Orleans. The only other significant option beyond Kamara is Kendre Miller, who’s roughly a year removed from a torn ACL suffered last October. Kamara, a 31-year-old veteran, has been known to handle a significant workload before. However, there are some real questions about whether he’s still capable of doing so.
Last season, Kamara appeared in 11 games for the Saints while dealing with various bumps and bruises. He produced 471 rushing yards and one touchdown on 131 carries, but his 3.6 YPC marked the lowest per-rush average of his career. He also caught 33 passes for 186 receiving yards, but again, his 5.6 YD/REC also marked a career low. Now, he’s another year older and has produced just 51 rushing yards on 18 carries across two games – just 2.8 yards per tote. He’s handled nine carries in each of his two games, tallying 15 and 36 rushing yards.
On DraftKings Sportsbook, Kamara’s player prop bet lines are set at just O/U 9.5 rush attempts, 38.5 rushing yards, 3.5 receptions and 16.5 receiving yards. He holds +150 odds for an anytime touchdown. The Saints are also a 1.5-point favorite with the total set at 47.5 combined points.
The idea of Kamara coming in to look like his vintage self in a large role is fun, but it’s likely not going to become reality. He simply hasn’t been efficient in quite some time and is clearly not the same runner he used to be. Beyond the downtick in his own ability, the matchup on Monday Night Football is as bad as it gets.
The opposing Falcons have one of the best run defenses in football. Through three games, Atlanta leads the NFL in EPA/rush and rushing success rate allowed. Kamara isn’t much of an explosive threat these days, this defense also ranks second in explosive run rate allowed at just 4.4%. Beyond that, the Falcons allow the second-lowest YPC to running backs at just 3.13 and they’re yet to give up a touchdown on the ground to the position.
Beyond the matchup, the Saints are also first in the NFL in offensive pace and are seventh in PROE at 4.6%. This is a team that largely wants to throw the ball with Tyler Shough, so given the defense they’re facing, a surplus of rushing work doesn’t feel realistic here. With that in mind, the under on 38.5 rushing yards feels like the best prop bet when it comes to Alvin Kamara’s lines tonight.
Best Bet: Alvin Kamara under 38.5 rushing yards (-112)
