It is now Week 2 of the NFL season, which is great, because after watching each team play once, we know everything there possibly is to know about the league in 2026. Congrats to us all!

In all seriousness, it is nice to have even some small bit of clarity on how coaches will be utilizing their players for the next four months, but as well all know, there is no bigger time for overreaction than Week 2. So try and stay grounded as we sort through the odds for first touchdown scorer in Thursday’s tilt between the Lions and the Bills.

Jahmyr Gibbs First TD Scorer (+400)

There’s no world in which you’re going to straight bet Gibbs to score a touchdown at -320 odds, so if you want some exposure to the explosive RB in this market, it’s either going to be as the first touchdown scorer or for multiple trips to the end zone. I honestly think +400 is a bit of a value. Like, did you see the kind of role Gibbs had in Week 1 with David Montgomery no longer there to steal goal line carries? Not only was Gibbs the lone man in the NFL to see 30-plus touches in their season’s opening game, but that total included a league-high eight red zone rushing attempts. Heck, Gibbs saw all three of the Lions’ carries inside the five-yard line, which is already equal to 33.3% of his workload from that area of the field last year. He might legitimately be gunning for LaDainian Tomlinson’s single-season record.

Khalil Shakir First TD Scorer (+1500)

I think it would be fair to say that Shakir got a little lost in the shuffle of last week’s 36-31 Buffalo win over Houston. Josh Allen (+750) didn’t just run for a pair of touchdowns, but he had a shiny new toy in the form of DJ Moore (+1000), who finished the contest with 100 receiving yards and a team-high eight targets. Then there was Dalton Kincaid (+1200) soaking up what was left of the limelight, posting a career-high 130 receiving yards of his own. I guess I’m simply trying to not forget that Shakir has been the No. 1 wideout in the Bills’ aerial attack the past two seasons. He’s far from chopped liver, and he should be able to easily exploit a Detroit secondary that is currently without multiple starters. It’s also worth noting that Shakir was the only Buffalo wide receiver to see a red zone target in Week 1, garnering a 75.0% target share inside the 20. If he’d caught more than one of those three opportunities, we probably would be having a different conversation.
