The Cubs (78-60) took care of business in dominant fashion on Monday. Chicago racked up 17 runs and a whopping nine homers during a blowout win over the Brewers (85-53). Milwaukee, responsible for the best record in baseball, will be eager to turn the page on Tuesday. Can the visitors even up this series tonight at Wrigley Field?
The Cubs are favorites (-123) over the Brewers; the over/under is set at ten runs. Below, I’ve laid out my preview, prediction, and best bet for Tuesday’s showdown between Milwaukee and Chicago on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Brewers vs. Cubs pick, best bet today
- Cubs ML (-123): Chicago, fresh off of Monday’s rout, looks the part of a World Series contender. It’s difficult to envision baseball’s highest-scoring offense slowing down tonight at home against a middling arm such as Gasser.

Robert Gasser will get the nod this evening for the visitors. Over 82.1 innings of work (15 starts), the right-hander has notched a 4.59 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 78 strikeouts (8.5 K/9). Despite middling numbers, the 27-year-old isn’t a complete pushover on the mound. He’s allowed three earned runs or less in six of his last seven appearances. Still, it’s difficult to get too excited when it comes to Gasser’s chances tonight. He ranks inside the 40th percentile or worse in xERA (4.22), xBA (.253), chase rate (29.4%) and ground ball rate (32.8%).
That last statistic could prove consequential on Tuesday. Gasser’s inability to keep the ball on the ground doesn’t bode well heading into today’s matchup. The Cubs are one of baseball’s most power-happy clubs, leading the majors in home runs (196). In fact, the North Siders smacked 62 dingers during August. That’s a National League record for one club over the course of a single month. Chicago hitters have posted a 29.0% fly ball rate, third-highest in baseball. Gasser’s knack for giving up the long ball (1.4 HR/9) makes navigating tonight’s opponent a difficult task. MVP candidate Pete Crow-Armstrong and third baseman Alex Bregman are both swinging hot bats.
As for the other side, Matthew Boyd will take the hill tonight. The former All-Star has battled injuries for much of 2025. However, when healthy, he remains an above-average arm. The southpaw has notched a 3.99 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 76 strikeouts (7.1 K/9) during 97.0 innings of work. That’s not to say the veteran has been perfect; he’s surrendered at least four runs in three of his last five appearances. However, he remains above-average when it comes to limiting free passes (2.8 BB/9). Whether or not he’s at his best, Boyd should provide Chicago with some length. The lefty has tossed six innings or more in nine of his previous ten outings.
Milwaukee’s lineup, while unorthodox, gets the job done. Despite a lack of home run power, this group is at its best when stringing together base hits. The Brewers are third in runs scored (686), third in batting average (.255) and second in on-base percentage (.338). However, tonight’s contest could present some difficulty for the NL Central leaders. The Brew Crew have put up a .700 OPS against left-handed pitching, 13th-worst in the big leagues.
Best Bet: Cubs ML (-123)
Gasser doesn’t inspire much confidence. His propensity for fly balls should have this homer-happy Cubs lineup licking its chops on Tuesday. Boyd is far from an ace, but this isn’t the most intimidating matchup. The Brewers haven’t been the most dangerous group at the plate against lefties. Equipped with the superior starter and deeper lineup, Chicago makes plenty of sense this evening at home.
