The Yankees (61-46) are gaining momentum, having won 11 of their last 15 games. That includes two straight against the AL Central-leading White Sox (55-51). Tonight, it’s a star-studded matchup on the mound between Cam Schlittler and Davis Martin. Which of these postseason contenders will come out with a win on Wednesday night?
The Yankees are favorites (-149) over the White Sox, with the over/under set at 7.5 runs. Below, I’ve laid out my preview, prediction, and best bet for Wednesday’s showdown between New York and Chicago on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Yankees vs. White Sox pick, best bet today
- Yankees -1.5 (+119): Chicago hitters have struggled against high velocity fastballs. That’s not ideal against a hard-throwing righty such as Schlittler. As for Martin, he got rocked during his previous meeting with the Yankees back in June. Grab the Yankees at plus money on Wednesday.
Yankees vs. White Sox prediction, preview
As previously mentioned, it’ll be Schlittler making his 23rd start of the season on Wednesday. Through 130.1 innings of work, the right-hander has notched a 2.07 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 157 strikeouts (10.8 K/9). At this point, the 25-year-old is the undisputed ace of an elite New York rotation. He’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in 17 of his 22 appearances in 2026. A quick glance at Schlittler’s Savant page elicits even more excitement from Yankees fans. He ranks within the 90th percentile in fastball velocity (97.8 MPH), chase rate (35.1%), strikeout rate (30.5%) and walk rate (4.9%).
This isn’t an easy matchup at the plate by any means. Chicago is ninth in runs scored (508), seventh in home runs (137) and tenth in slugging percentage (.409). All-Star hitters Munetaka Murakami and Miguel Vargas have carried a deep, power-laden lineup all season. Still, getting anything going against one of the sport’s premier arms is never an easy task. Schlittler doesn’t do anything fancy on the mound, opting for his four-seam fastball or cutter 71% of the time. Against those two pitches, when thrown at 95 MPH or higher, White Sox batters are slashing .197/.294/.368.
The home team will counter Schlittler with a standout pitcher of their own in Martin. Despite tailing off a bit in recent weeks, the 29-year-old remains Chicago’s most reliable hurler. Over 111.0 innings (20 starts), he’s recorded a 3.49 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 100 strikeouts (8.0 K/9). Where the veteran truly excels is at limiting hard contact; his 0.5 HR/9 ratio leads all of baseball. That’s not ideal for a Yankees lineup that paces the American League with 152 dingers. Still, it’s fair to express some concern about Martin going forward. After a blistering hot April and May, he’s come crashing down to Earth. Since June 1st, the righty has posted a 5.82 ERA and 1.71 WHIP during nine outings.
On paper, the Yankees wield an above-average offense. However, the Bronx Bombers are shorthanded without Aaron Judge (ribs) and Cody Bellinger (hamstring). It’s no coincidence that they’ve scored the seventh-fewest runs (85) in the month of July. With that being said, this lineup could do some damage against a right-handed pitcher that gives up hard hits. Lefty hitters such as Ben Rice and Jazz Chisholm are talented enough to lead this Pinstripes offense. When the Yankees last faced Martin on June 2nd, they tallied a whopping nine runs over 3.1 innings.
Best Bet: Yankees -1.5 (+119)
Martin should look sharper this time around against a banged up Yankees lineup. However, three or four runs might be all New York needs to break this one open. The White Sox wield a talented offense, but better hitting clubs have been stifled against Schlittler this season. With their ace on the bump, expect a comfortable win for the visitors tonight.
