Spencer Steer left Sunday’s game against the Cardinals after injuring his hand on a foul-ball swing. Cincinnati removed him shortly afterward, ending his afternoon after two plate appearances.
Steer appeared to experience immediate discomfort after fouling the pitch away. He had struck out twice while batting second and starting at second base. The Reds have not yet announced which hand was injured or whether further testing will be required.
The mechanism creates concern because hand and wrist injuries can affect grip strength and swing extension. Even a minor contusion could make Steer unavailable for several games. Cincinnati should provide additional details after its medical staff evaluates him.
Steer entered Sunday hitting .240/.320/.423 with 16 home runs, 40 RBI, and 54 runs. His versatility has also allowed Cincinnati to use him throughout the infield and outfield.
The Reds will likely rely on Nathaniel Lowe, Sal Stewart, and Edwin Arroyo if Steer misses time. His fantasy status remains day-to-day until Cincinnati announces a diagnosis or imaging results.
