What happened to Samuel Basallo? Injury updates for Orioles vs. Astros on 7/19/26

Samuel Basallo left Sunday’s game against the Houston Astros with right shoulder discomfort, the Baltimore Orioles announced.

Basallo grounded out against Hunter Brown during the second inning at Daikin Park. Sam Huff replaced him behind the plate before Houston batted in the bottom half. Basallo finished 0-for-1 before departing.

The 21-year-old entered Sunday batting .242 with 16 home runs, 46 RBI, and a .758 OPS across 85 games. He ranks second among Baltimore hitters in home runs. Basallo also caught all 11 innings during Saturday’s 4-2 victory.

Baltimore selected Huff’s contract from Triple-A Norfolk before Sunday’s game. The club optioned Cam Sanders and transferred Ryan Helsley to the 60-day injured list. That move gave Baltimore immediate catching protection with Adley Rutschman out of Sunday’s lineup.

Basallo previously dealt with right abdominal discomfort and a bony growth in his left wrist this season. Sunday’s right shoulder issue represents a new concern. Baltimore has not announced whether Basallo will undergo imaging or miss additional time.
