UPDATE: Contreras has been diagnosed with a left foot contusion, and says he is day-to-day.
It’s been quite the week for Willson Contreras. It started with a fight, then an All-Star selection, and now an injury. Contreras ripped a foul ball off his foot in his second at-bat and was forced to leave the game.
Contreras, 34, is having one heck of a season for the Red Sox. Going into Wednesday’s action, the four-time All-Star has a career-high .926 OPS. He’s only two home runs away from a career high, and is on pace for his first career 100 RBI season. At 41-48, Boston’s season is on life support; any significant missed time from their star hitter would be quite a blow.
