90+4′: It’s a red card for Ecuador’s Piero Hincapié. He covered his mouth while talking to a Mexican player, which VAR took a look at and decided to give a red card. That’s the second time we’ve seen a red card for covering your mouth at this World Cup.
90+1′: Mexico are so close to the third. Orbelín Pineda gets the ball in the box on the left side and opens his body looking for the top right corner and barely misses. Mexico can smell the Round of 16 now.
74′: How did Ecuador not score? A long ball over the top is controlled on the chest perfectly by Kevin Rodríguez who finds himself in on goal against the goalkeeper. He tries to lob it over the keeper, but misses the target and it goes wide.
66′: CHANCE. Mexico get back-to-back corners, and César Montes gets his head on both. The first one was on target and saved by the goalkeeper, and the second one goes wide of the post.
HT: Mexico 2-0 Ecuador. Mexico have dominated this one, with 10 shots to just two for Ecuador. In terms of shots on target, Mexico has two while Ecuador has one. On DraftKings Sportsbook, Mexico are huge favorites on the moneyline at -2000, with a draw set at +1200. Ecuador’s moneyline is currently at +4000.
39′: WHAT A SAVE. John Yeboah gets another chance as he cuts in on his left foot from the right side of the box. He curls a shot to the far top corner, but Raúl Rangel gets a hand on it and sends it out for a corner.
30′: GOAL FOR MEXICO. Ecuador give the ball away easily in their own half, and it falls to Julián Quiñones who slips a pass into Raúl Jiménez just inside the box and he finds the top corner. What a finish that was. Mexico 2-0 Ecuador.
21′: GOAL FOR MEXICO. A ball is sent over the top to Julián Quiñones who runs onto it, cuts inside to his right foot, and finds the top corner at the near post. Quiñones would have been offside, but he was still in his own half when the ball was played so it will count. Mexico 1-0 Ecuador.
17′: CHAOS. Ecuador come down the other end of the pitch right away and it’s John Yeboah who nutmegs a defender in the box and rips a shot that hits off the post. This one is heating up.
16′: ANOTHER CHANCE. It’s 17-year-old Gilberto Mora who gets the ball on the left side inside the box and opens his body to try and find the far corner. Mora just puts the shot wide, but Mexico are asking questions early.
6′: CHANCE. It’s all Mexico early on here. It’s wave after wave of attack. The most recent attack sees Raúl Jiménez miss a wide-open header at the back post with the goal gaping. What a chance that was.
1′: And we’re off! We have kickoff in Mexico City, and this Round of 32 matchup is underway.
