What happened to CJ Abrams? Injury updates for Nationals vs. Phillies 6/23/26

The Washington Nationals square off with the Philadelphia Phillies this evening, but there’s a major change on the lineup card just a few minutes prior to first pitch.

Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams has been scratched from the lineup due to left side tightness.

Abrams is enjoying the best season of his career by far, slashing .286/.366/.530 for an .895 OPS. In 77 games, he has 82 hits, 51 runs, 57 RBI and 17 home runs. He’s second on the Washington roster in OPS and has generated 3.0 WAR, also second most among his team’s position players.

The Nationals are 41-38, good for third in the NL East prior to the start of tonight’s game against the Phillies.
