This is the kind of night Shohei Ohtani has made feel routine only by making the impossible repetitive. The Dodgers arrive at Chase Field at 39-22, winners of 15 of their last 19 games, after Ohtani turned Tuesday’s 6-5 win into a complete offensive spectacle: a double, a triple, two RBI, two runs, and an 18th consecutive game reaching base. Freddie Freeman punctuated it with a two-run homer and three hits, while Dalton Rushing scored twice as Los Angeles erased the memory of Arizona’s homer-driven series-opening win. The Diamondbacks are 32-28 after dropping four of five, and their spirited seventh-inning push Tuesday only deepened the sting of leaving the tying run unresolved. Now they have to come back the next night and face the man who already bent the series around himself before throwing a pitch. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers prediction, preview
Ohtani’s 10th start of the season comes with a line that belongs to a video-game season: 5-2, a 0.82 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and 61 strikeouts in 55 innings. Over his last three turns, he has allowed one earned run and three hits in 18 innings, following seven scoreless against San Francisco and five scoreless in San Diego with six hitless innings against Colorado. The contact profile is almost as punishing as the run prevention: a .212 wOBA allowed, .247 xwOBA, 87.9 mph average exit velocity, and 3.1% barrel rate. Zac Gallen reaches the same stage from the other direction. The Arizona right-hander is 3-4 with a 5.16 ERA and 1.47 WHIP, following a 2.19 ERA in April with a 7.04 ERA in May. Opponents have earned the downturn, reaching him for a .355 xwOBA, 90.8 mph average exit velocity, 45.2% hard-hit rate, and 10.6% barrel rate. He allowed four runs in four innings against this lineup on Opening Day, and the Dodgers now see him while their best bats are producing damage together.
Ohtani’s pitching has somehow become only half of the problem for Arizona. He is batting .420 during his 18-game on-base streak, with seven doubles, two triples, four home runs, 17 RBI, and 10 multi-hit games, and he has gone 11-for-22 with a homer, a triple, and two doubles across his last five. His season-quality contact remains thunderous at a .408 xwOBA, 93.4 mph average exit velocity, 52.2% hard-hit rate, and 15.8% barrel rate. Freeman is right there behind him after Tuesday’s homer, carrying a .376 xwOBA, 91.4 mph average exit velocity, 46.4% hard-hit rate, and 11.7% barrel rate while batting .370 with three homers over his last seven games. Andy Pages has become a genuine third driver rather than ornamental depth, batting .333/.344/.733 over his last seven with two home runs and five RBI. Arizona does have one premium answer in Corbin Carroll, who homered Tuesday and owns a .364 xwOBA, 91.5 mph average exit velocity, 50.3% hard-hit rate, and 12.6% barrel rate. Nolan Arenado has supplied a homer and a two-run double in this series, but his 85.5 mph average exit velocity and 31.7% hard-hit rate leave Carroll carrying the cleaner sustained-impact profile.
Arizona’s counterargument is credible enough to keep the full-game run line from feeling effortless. Carroll can turn one Ohtani miss into a run, Arenado has repeatedly converted chances in this series, and Los Angeles needed five relievers Tuesday before Tanner Scott escaped with the lead. Yet the Diamondbacks’ posted order removes Ketel Marte after he homered Monday and scored in Tuesday’s late rally, stripping Ohtani of one of the few bats capable of matching Carroll’s extra-base threat near the top. The early scoring contrast becomes severe: Ohtani has allowed five earned runs all season, while Gallen has allowed loud contact without enough strikeout leverage to escape it. Los Angeles has Ohtani, Pages, Freeman, Mookie Betts, Kyle Tucker, and Max Muncy arranged to see him before the order turns soft, and even the lower portion produced Tuesday when Rushing collected two hits and scored twice.
Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks pick, best bet
The obvious Dodgers prices are asking too much for the same baseball argument. A full-game moneyline above -200 requires no imagination, the full-game run line carries the late-bullpen tension Arizona nearly exploited Tuesday, and the over at 8.5 asks an undermanned Diamondbacks order to help solve Ohtani. The more precise route sits in the opening window. Gallen’s current version has already allowed the Dodgers four runs in four innings this season, then spent May permitting a seven-run ERA while the underlying contact stayed just as alarming as the results. Ohtani’s bat is scalding, Freeman has broken back open, and Pages has lengthened the top of the order into a three-man pressure chamber. The Dodgers do not need a late Arizona bullpen collapse, nor do they need the Diamondbacks to score at all; they need Gallen to keep being the pitcher his last month and contact-quality profile say he has become.
Best bet: Dodgers F5 team total over 2.5 runs (-115). The full Ohtani experience is the draw, though the batting half is where the wager belongs. Three early Dodgers runs ask less than a multi-run margin behind a potentially worked late bullpen, and much less than requiring Arizona to contribute against the most dominant starter in the game. Gallen is yielding a .355 xwOBA with a double-digit barrel rate, and the first three Dodgers hitters arrive with current form sharp enough to turn one difficult inning into the ticket. Carroll remains the dangerous interruption on the other side, but his threat is a reason to avoid the F5 run line, not a reason to pass on Los Angeles scoring early. This number is playable through -120.
