Cleveland Guardians vs. New York Yankees prediction, pick for Tuesday 6/2/26

Postseason contenders will meet this evening in the Bronx. Cleveland (34-27) stands alone atop the wide-open AL Central. Still, it remains to be seen whether the Guardians can compete against baseball’s best. In that regard, Tuesday’s matchup with the rival Yankees (36-23) serves as a notable litmus test. New York, having won six of its last seven games, looks the part of a World Series contender.

The Yankees are favorites (-252) over the Guardians, with the over/under set at 7.5 runs. Below, I’ve laid out my preview, prediction, and best bet for Tuesday’s showdown between Cleveland and New York on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Guardians vs. Yankees pick, best bet

Guardians vs. Yankees prediction, preview

Earning a win at Yankee Stadium is never easy. Still, the Guardians could do far worse than Joey Cantillo on the mound. Cleveland’s third-year pro is emerging as a reliable contributor in the rotation. Through 12 starts this season, he’s notched a 3.57 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 52 strikeouts (8.1 K/9). Despite offering decent run prevention, the southpaw is likely due for some negative regression. Per Savant, Cantillo only ranks inside the 15th percentile in average fastball velocity (91.8 MPH) and walk rate (12.7%).

If there was ever a team that exercises elite plate discipline, it’s the Yankees. This group is averaging an American League-best 4.41 walks per game this season. Granted, that’s just one of several factors that makes this offense so dangerous. New York ranks fourth in runs scored (305), first in home runs (86) and second in slugging percentage (.436). It’s also worth noting that the Pinstripes lead all of baseball with an .804 OPS against left-handed pitching. Including the postseason, Cantillo owns a dismal 9.82 ERA over 7.1 career innings vs. New York.

Even if Cantillo is at his best tonight, the visitors are still facing an uphill battle. That’s due to the presence of Cam Schlittler, already one of the best pitchers on Earth. Following a breakout playoff run in 2025, the right-hander has taken things up a notch this season. Through 72.0 innings of work, he’s delivered an AL-best 1.50 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in addition to 81 strikeouts (10.1 K/9). The 25-year-old hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in any of his 12 outings so far.

There’s nothing fancy about Schlittler’s pitch mix. Most of the time, he throws either a fastball (45%) or cutter (27%), topping out at just above 97 MPH on the four-seamer. Against pitches at that speed or faster, the Guardians own a .197 batting average and .250 wOBA. As a unit, Cleveland ranks 20th in runs scored (249), 20th in home runs (56) and 24th in OPS (.692). The team has scored just 24 runs over their last ten games, worst in the majors during that stretch.

Best Bet: Yankees -1.5 (-115)

Cleveland is a legitimate threat to win the American League, but tonight’s game is filled with obstacles. Cantillo, a lefty that frequently puts runners on, doesn’t inspire much confidence against this Yankees lineup. On the other side, Schlittler’s blazing fastball could give a light-hitting Guardians offense issues. At home, expect a comfortable victory for New York on Tuesday.
