Philadelphia Phillies over 3.5 runs (-125) vs. San Diego Padres

Randy Vasquez will take the mound tonight against the Phillies. On the surface, it looks like he’s been pitching well with a 2.96 ERA. However, his xERA of 5.43 tells a much different story. He’s allowed a lot of hard contact (45%), and his ground ball rate is currently at the lowest of his career (38%). He’s also struggled more at home, where he has a .354 wOBA, a 4.07 FIP, and four of the five home runs he’s allowed. Of the seven home starts Vasquez has made, he’s allowed at least three earned runs in four of them. With all this in mind, I think the Phillies are in a great position to clear this 3.5 team total.

Nick Kurtz 2+ Total Bases (+104) vs. Seattle Mariners

Kurtz is having a monster month at the plate, slashing .337/.471/.542 with a .443 wOBA and a .205 ISO. He’s been great at home specifically, with a .428 wOBA and a .224 ISO. While Emerson Hancock has pitched well overall, this is a very tough matchup in Sacramento at Sutter Health Park. Of the 21 hits that Kurtz has at home, nine have gone for extra bases. Hancock mainly throws a four-seam and sinker, doing so 59% of the time. Dating back to last season, Kurtz has extremely good numbers against both pitches. In a park where he continues to hit extremely well, I’ll take the plus money on Kurtz to collect at least 2+ total bases.

Kyle Freeland under 16.5 outs recorded (-120) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

This feels like a lofty total for Freeland to clear, as he’s gone under in all but one of his starts this season. To clear this outs total, Freeland needs to pitch at least 5.2 innings. The only time he did that this season was when he tossed 6.1 innings against the Astros back on April 7th. Aside from that start, he’s pitched no more than five innings in seven starts. Now, he’ll face a Dodgers lineup that has a combined .343 wOBA with a .190 ISO against left-handed pitching. Freeland hasn’t been as bad as his 7.04 ERA shows, but his xERA of 5.73 isn’t good either. It would be shocking to see him go deep in this game.
