Paul Skenes 7+ Strikeouts (-149)
Paul Skenes was unfazed after his Opening Day nightmare against the Mets, during which he got chased without completing an inning. The reigning National League Cy Young enters Sunday afternoon with a sub-2.00 ERA, leading MLB with a 1.85 xERA and a 0.64 WHIP. The right-handed flamethrower also ranks in MLB’s 92nd percentile with a 30.3% strikeout rate.
Skenes has recorded at least seven strikeouts in four straight starts, punctuated by a 10-K performance against the Rockies. He should continue racking up strikeouts against the Phillies, against whom he owns a 0.57 ERA with 16 strikeouts across two career starts (15.2 IP). The club’s superstar trio of Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, and Trea Turner is a combined 1-for-15 with six strikeouts against the Pirates ace.
Elly De La Cruz 2+ Total Bases (+130)
Cleveland right-hander Gavin Williams has struggled to mitigate loud contact this season, ranking below MLB’s 15th percentile in hard-hit rate (12th), barrel rate (7th), and average exit velocity (8th). He’s also coming off a string of blowup outings, coughing up five or more earned runs in three of his last four starts.
On Sunday, he’ll be tasked with skirting the bat of one of the sport’s hardest hitters: Reds superstar Elly De La Cruz. The switch-hitting shortstop owns a scorching average exit velocity of 94.2 mph — the ninth-fastest mark in MLB. De La Cruz is riding a nine-game hitting streak, recording multiple total bases in eight of them, and should stay hot against Williams.
Drake Baldwin 2+ Hits + Runs + RBIs (-162)
It’s shaping up to be a Drake summer — and I’m not talking about Iceman. The reigning National League Rookie of the Year is tailoring an extraordinary sophomore campaign, hitting .304 with a .934 OPS and 13 home runs through 46 games. Baldwin enters Sunday afternoon ranking in MLB’s top-five in RBIs (5th), hits (3rd), and runs scored (1st).
The ascendant Atlanta catcher should continue doing damage at the dish Sunday afternoon, taking some hacks against struggling Boston hurler Brayan Bello. The right-hander has gotten tagged for a bloated 6.46 ERA and ranks below MLB’s 10th percentile with a 6.28 xERA and a .304 xBA. Baldwin is 2-for-3 with an RBI in his career against Bello.
