Things have gone from bad to worse for Rhett Lowder. On the heels of a terrible outing this past weekend, the former seventh-overall pick has now been forced to leave this afternoon’s start at Wrigley Field with a trainer due to an apparent injury.

Coming into the fourth inning, Lowder had only allowed a single hit on the day, a solo home run to Michael Conforto. However, the wheels had started to come off again prior to the ailment, with Lowder walking the first two batters of the frame. His final stat line will read three innings, three earned runs conceded with four walks. For the season as a whole, Lowder’s ERA now sits at 5.40 across eight outings and 38.1 innings.

If Lowder ends up missing extended time, he’s join Hunter Greene (elbow), Nick Lodolo (finger) and Brandon Williamson (shoulder) on the IL. That’s almost a full rotation.
