What happened to Eugenio Suarez? Lineup updates for Reds vs. Tigers 4/24/26

First pitch of Friday’s Cincinnati Reds game is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. ET in just a couple of hours. However, they’ll work without a star slugger as Eugenio Suarez has been scratched from the lineup sheet against the Detroit Tigers.

The power-slugging third baseman was supposed to bat fifth in the order as usual but was scratched due to mid-back pain.

Suarez has appeared in 25 contests for the Reds this season, slashing .231/.300/.363. His .663 OPS would mark the lowest of his career since his rookie campaign all the way back in 2014, but perhaps more time will help his production even out. The first season with a new team can often prove difficult, and while he’s only mashed three home runs thus far, it feels like Suarez should see his slugging numbers improve at some point due to the historical precedent of his career.

The Reds are 16-9 on the season, second in the NL Central. Today marks the first game of this series against Detroit.
