Miami Marlins team total over 4.5 runs (+105) vs. St. Louis Cardinals
This would be a great spot for Jesse Pinkman to scream, “He can’t keep getting away with this.”
Michael McGreevey has been getting insanely lucky. I don’t know how it keeps happening. McGreevey has a 2.49 ERA but also a 7.44 xERA and a 4.24 FIP. The fact that he’s only allowed six earned runs through his first four starts is nothing short of a miracle. In fact, he has two starts where his xERA was over 12. He’s going to get rocked soon and maybe the Marlins are the team to do it.
The Marlins offense has been surprisingly good. They’re averaging 4.5 runs per game, lead the league in triples with eight, and are eighth in the league in hits. Tonight’s expected lineup has excellent numbers against the four-seam thus far, with a combined .355 wOBA, a .252 ISO. Last season, McGreevey also struggled immensely against lefties. The Marlins will likely have four and possibly five in their lineup tonight. Once McGreevey departs, he’ll give way to a Cardinals bullpen that over the past week has a 5.63 ERA with a 4.47 FIP and a 4.8 BB/9.
Slade Cecconi under 16.5 outs recorded (-123) vs. Houston Astros
Cecconi has a very tough matchup against an Astros offense that has been one of the best in the league. They’re averaging over five runs per game and are in the top five in the league in OBP, SLG, wOBA, and OPS. Cecconi is likely to allow a lot of traffic on the base paths, as he sports a 4.5 BB/9. The Astros have been an excellent team with men on base, sporting a team .344 wOBA, which ranks seventh in the league. I would not be surprised if the Astros get to him early, as they’ve also been one of the highest-scoring teams through the first five innings, averaging 3.1 runs per game. With all this in mind, I don’t envision Cecconi recording outs early in the sixth inning.
Brandon Marsh 2+ H/R/RBI (+125) vs. Chicago Cubs
I feel as if this is a sneaky spot for Marsh to clear 2+ H/R/RBI tonight against the Cubs. The Phillies’ offense, as a whole, has been abysmal over their last five games. They’ve scored a total of nine runs over that span, which is averaging less than two per game. It’s not going to stay that way forever and an offensive outburst could come at any time. At least for tonight, I’m focusing on Marsh against Colin Rea. He had extremely poor numbers against lefties last season, allowing a .366 wOBA and a 5.05 FIP, and allowing 14 of the 20 home runs he allowed. He mainly throws a four-seam fastball, doing so 44% of the time this season. Marsh has great numbers against that pitch dating back to last season with a .352 wOBA and a .159 ISO.
It’s a very small sample, but Marsh has crushed Rea when they’ve faced each other. In nine plate appearances, Marsh has six hits, with three of them going for extra bases.
