Toronto Blue Jays DH George Springer left today’s matchup with the Twins and has been diagnosed with a fractured toe. He was replaced in the lineup by Myles Straw.
Prior to exiting, Springer logged two plate appearances. He walked in his first plate appearance and scored a run on a Daulton Varsho home run in the first inning. Springer grounded out in the third inning before being removed in the sixth inning. Straw lined out to left field in his first at-bat of the day.
It has not been a stellar start to the season for the four-time All-Star and former World Series MVP. Springer entered this game posting slash lines of .189/.283/.377 with a career-worst .661 OPS. He has notched just 10 hits, two home runs and six RBI, while striking out 14 times. This is not an injury that will sideline him for a significant time, but it will be a major hit to the Blue Jays’ lineup in the short term.
