What happened to Byron Buxton? Live injury updates for Twins vs. Rays on 4/3/26

UPDATE: Per the Twins, Byron Buxton left the game with a “right forearm contusion” and X-rays were negative.

Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton exited Friday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays early due to injury.

During the bottom of the seventh inning, Buxton was hit on the wrist/arm area by a fastball and immediately left the field of play. There is no official update on his injury status.

Buxton was 0-for-3 with a strikeout prior to the injury on Friday. He was replaced on the basepaths by James Outman.

A 32-year-old veteran, Buxton has gone just 4-for-23 to start the 2026 season. However, he’s coming off an excellent 2025 in which he slashed .264/.327/.551 with a career-best 35 home runs and 83 RBI. Health concerns have been a prevalent theme throughout his 12 years in the MLB though, so his status will be one to monitor closely.

The Twins are just 2-4 to begin the new season but held a lead over the Rays when Buxton left the game.
