Peaky Blinders seemingly came to a close in 2022, wrapping up the blockbuster British show following a six-season run. Four years later, though, creator Steven Knight is coming back for a sequel movie, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. With the story picking back up in the middle of World War II, Oscar-nominated actor Barry Keoghan has joined the cast.

Here’s everything you need to know about Keoghan’s appearance in the new Netflix original movie:

(Warning: Spoilers for Peaky Blinders seasons 1-6 ahead).

Who does Barry Keoghan play in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man?

Barry Keoghan will be playing Erasmus Shelby, Thomas Shelby’s long-lost son who goes by Duke. Keoghan was not in the original run of Peaky Blinders, though. Conrad Khan played Duke in season 6 of the show, when the character first made an appearance.

In the continuity of the show, Duke was born in 1915. His mother was Zelda, a Romani woman who Tommy had a relationship with before he went to fight in World War I. Zelda raised Duke alone until she died, at which point John Shelby’s widow Esme kept an eye on him. Tommy eventually claimed Duke and adopted him in 1934, right after his daughter Ruby died. Duke, after some initial reluctance, joined his fathers’ battles against Michael Gray, the IRA and Oswald Mosley.

Tommy went into exile at the end of season 6, leaving control of the Peaky Blinders gang to Duke. As one of his first moves in charge, Duke tasks Finn Shelby – the youngest Shelby brother – with killing Billy Grade, who exposed Tommy’s plan to assassinate Mosley. Finn instead attempted to kill Isiah Jesus, but Duke had emptied the gun. Duke banishes Finn from the family, with Finn vowing revenge against his nephew.

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man takes place six years after the show ended, with Duke now fully in control of the Peaky Blinders.
