Back in 2018, audiences and critics raved when Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse hit theaters. The smash-hit animated movie wound up winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, to say nothing of the $690 million its sequel grossed at the box office in 2023. One of the breakout side characters from the first film was the black-and-white Spider-Man Noir, voiced by Nicolas Cage. Cage is now set to reprise his role in a live-action Spider-Noir TV series this year, adding yet another layer to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.
Three years after it was first announced, we finally got our first official look at the show. Here is what we got, plus everything else we know about the spinoff so far.
Spider-Noir First-Look Images
Esquire published an exclusive first-look at Spider-Noir on Tuesday. There were seven images released as part of the story, including two of Noir in full costume, one of Cage sipping a drink at the bar and another of the private investigator in his office.
Li Jun Li (Babylon, Sinners) will portray Cat Hardy – a version of Black Cat. We got a photo of her singing at a club, fully leaning into the femme fatale identity. We also got a look at Lamorne Morris (New Girl, Saturday Night) as Daily Bugle journalist Robbie Robertson. Bill Nunn played Robertson in Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy between 2002 and 2007. This will mark the character’s first live-action appearance since Spider-Man 3 nearly 19 years ago.
Then there’s Karen Rodriguez, who will co-star as Noir’s secretary, Janet. We got a photo of her, but not one of Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire, American Hustle) as Flint Marco, a.k.a Sandman. We also haven’t gotten a look at Brendan Gleeson’s (The Banshees of Inisherin, Harry Potter) villain Silvermane, a cyborg crime boss.
Who is Spider-Man Noir?
Spider-Man Noir debuted in Marvel comics in 2009, when the company introduced the Marvel Noir series. In that alternate universe – designated as Earth-90214 – Marvel characters found themselves embroiled in classic noir, crime and detective stories during the Great Depression. Peter Parker exists in this world, although the spider that gives him his signature powers is magical rather than radioactive. His uncle Ben, a World War I veteran, was killed by goons working for Norman Osborn, a crime lord known as the Goblin. Black Cat, Kraven the Hunter, Vulture, Sandman, Dr. Octopus, Kingpin, Mysterio and Electro are among the other notable Spider-Man villains who have variants on Earth-90214. Spider-Man Noir – a.k.a. Noir – eventually gets swept up into multiversal chaos, but he spends most of his time in the 1930s and 1940s fighting gangsters.
In Spider-Noir, the titular character will be a variant of Ben Reilly rather than another version of Peter Parker. Reilly traditionally takes on the identity of the Scarlet Spider, an edgy clone of Peter Parker who rose to popularity in the comics in the 1990s. The Scarlet Spider showed up in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in 2023, voiced by Andy Samberg.

When does Spider-Noir come out?
According to Esquire, the show will premiere in Spring 2026. There are no details about a more specific release date, although Prime Video will probably hold it until after Invincible season 4 in March and The Boys season 5 in April.
