Jeff’s King of the Court Pick for Tuesday, November 11: Nikola Jokic
After hitting the first two King of the Court picks of the season, last week Tyrese Maxey fell just short of Josh Giddey, who out-dueled the Sixers guard en route to a Bulls win and KOTC crown. This week, I’m unapologetically rolling with the chalkiest player on the board in Nikola Jokic.
Truly a bold pick, I know, but thus far every player to claim the King of the Court crown has been one of the favorites from a projected points, rebounds and assists standpoint. Luka Doncic, who is averaging a near 40-point triple-double did so on Opening Night. High-usage machines Giannis Antetokounmpo and Maxey tied in Week 2, and ultimately Giddey in Round 3.
Finally, the Joker draws his first shot at the crown on Tuesday, November 11, as he’s failed to suit up in the prior three KOTC nights. I expect the three-time MVP to make the most of his opportunity. Jokic is taking fewer shots and averaging less points this season than in years past, but he’s still putting up 25.2 points, 13.0 rebounds and 11.9 assists per contest. This Tuesday, he draws a favorable matchup against Sacramento. Over the Joker’s last five meetings with Domantas Sabonis and the Kings, he’s averaging just over 52 combined points, rebounds and assists. I expect a similar outing for Jokic as he vies for the King of the Court crown.
