UPDATE: Albies fractured the hamate bone in his left hand.

In the bottom of the third inning of Monday’s Braves vs. Nationals game, Ozzie Albies swung at a 2-0 pitch from the right side of the plate. Unfortunately, he not only fouled the pitch straight back, but injured his left wrist on the follow-through. It’s the same wrist he fractured last season.

Nick Allen was the substitute.

Prior to exiting, Albies went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

On the season, Albies has contributed 16 home runs, 73 runs, 74 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 665 plate appearances. The ISO (.125) and BABIP (.258) are both career-lows.

There are only five games left in the regular season.

Allen has accrued 408 plate appearances this season and produced 31 runs, 21 RBI and eight stolen bases. The walk rate is 7.4%, strikeout rate is 24% and the ISO is a paltry .027.
