With another NFL season about to get underway, Dallas Cowboys fans are hoping this is the year their Super Bowl drought comes to an end.
The Cowboys haven’t won The Big Game since 1995, and they are one of only 11 teams not to make it there over the last 30 years. Dallas has +170 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook to reach the playoffs and +5000 odds to win the Super Bowl, so 2025 may not be the year they break out of the decades-long funk.
But for any fans looking to relive the glory days, or any neutral parties hoping to learn more about how the Cowboys asserted themselves as America’s Team, help is on the way. A new documentary series called “America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys” chronicles how owner Jerry Jones took over in Dallas, as well as how the franchise’s dynastic run in the 1990s came to be.
The series is available only on Netflix, so you’ll need to have a subscription if you want to dive into all the ups and downs of the Cowboys.
Release Date
“America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys” premiered at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood on Monday, August 11. Jones, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Al Michaels, Mario Lopez, Skip Bayless, Andrea Kremer, Ted Sarandos and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders were among those present at the exclusive blue carpet event.
As for when the show hit Netflix, it became available to stream starting Tuesday, August 19 at 3 a.m. ET.
Episodes and Runtimes
There are eight episodes of “America’s Team,” all of which were released at once. All in, the limited series is 7 hours, 45 minutes long. Taking out credits, the combined runtime is about 6 hours, 50 minutes.

Cast and Crew
All eight episodes of “America’s Team” were directed by Chapman and Maclain Way. The brothers have previously directed a handful of other documentary projects for Netflix, including “The Battered Bastards of Baseball,” “Wild Wild Country” and “The Kings of Tupelo: A Southern Crime Saga.” They also produced and directed multiple documentaries in the “Untold” series, which has recounted the stories of Manti Te’o, the Malice at the Palace and the United Hockey League.
Owner Jerry Jones, quarterback Troy Aikman, running back Emmitt Smith, wide receiver Michael Irvin, cornerback Deion Sanders and coach Jimmy Johnson are among the key figures who sat down for exclusive interviews for the new show, as did Jerry Rice. Beyond them, though, former president George W. Bush and media mogul Rupert Murdoch are also listed among the cast.
The series was produced by NFL Films and Skydance Sports. Paramount Skydance Corporation CEO David Ellison is also credited as a producer, adding to a resume that already includes “Top Gun: Maverick” and the last five “Mission: Impossible” films.
