After a massive Sunday slate of baseball, the Sunday Night Baseball spotlight will turn to the West Coast as the Mets and Giants wrap up their series by the Bay. The Mets took the first two games of the series, winning 8-1 on Friday and 2-1 on Saturday. They’ll be looking to win their seventh straight game and finish out the sweep on Sunday.
The Mets have surged back to the top of the NL East and have a 1/2 game lead over the Phillies coming into today. After dropping the first two games in this series, the Giants are 54-51 and seven games behind the Dodgers in the NL West. They’re currently two games back of the third and final wild card spot, which the Padres are clinging to coming into Sunday’s action.
On Sunday, the Mets are -122 favorites as they give the ball to Kodai Senga against the Giants, who will start Matt Gage as the opening pitcher in a bullpen game with Carson Seymour as the bulk reliever. The run line is eight runs for Sunday night’s matchup.

1st Strikeout Thrown – Kodai Senga over Matt Gage (+200)
Senga has lots of props with short odds on this slate, and I highlighted his strikeout line in my top starting pitcher prop bets. However, in this post, I’m highlighting the race for the first strikeout in this game, which is a place to back Senga in a longshot play at +200.
Gage will get to pitch first as the home team starting pitcher, so this basically is a prop based on if Gage will get a strikeout in the first inning or not. Gage is a lefty who has seven strikeouts in 9 2/3 innings in the majors this year, split between the Tigers and Giants.
In his last appearance on Friday, Gage struck out one of the three batters he faced in a scoreless inning. He had four strikeouts in five innings across five games in the minors this month, but he’ll face the top of the Mets order in this one, which could be trickier to get a strikeout against.
The Mets usually go Nimmo, Lindor, Soto and Alonso in the first four in their lineup. On the season, Nimmo has a 19.8% K%, Lindor an 18.2% K%, Soto an 18.8% K% and Alonso a 23.1%. As a team, the Mets have a 21.0% K%, which ranks them in the top 10 in the majors in strikeout suppression.
It seems most likely that Gage will get a strikeout, but there’s definitely also a chance that he won’t. If he doesn’t, this is a great value play for Senga, who should pick up a strikeout early on. Gage is most likely to work only an inning. This prop is a long shot, but it’s a fun quick-hitter to back at big odds, starting off tonight’s Mets-Giants best bets.
Brandon Nimmo 3+ Hits + Runs + RBI (+140)
Nimmo’s home run props were one of the many options in contention for my top home run prop bets of the day. Ultimately, though, they weren’t quite as strong as the three options I chose.
He brings my favorite home run props for Sunday Night Baseball, though, especially since he’ll probably get most of his at-bats against righties even though a lefty is actually starting against him in Gage. A home run is one easy way for him to hit this HRR (hits + runs + RBI) line, but there are multiple paths to success for him, especially if he hits in the leadoff spot once again on Sunday.
Nimmo is hitting .262 on the season and .300 since the All-Star break. In his eight games since the break, he is 9-for-30 with two doubles, one homer, six runs and six RBI. His 21 HRR gives him an average of 2.6 per game in those eight contests, and he has gone over the HRR line in three of those eight games.
In a bullpen game, I think the Mets will be able to put good runs on the board against the Giants on Sunday night, and Nimmo should be in a good spot to stay hot and go over this HRR line at very nice plus money odds as one of my top Mets-Giants best bets.
Willy Adames 2+ Total Bases (+160)
Adames had a disappointing start to the season after signing a huge contract with the Gints last offseason, but he is starting to turn things around as we head down the stretch. He’s still hitting only .230 on the season, but he is hitting .319 in his 20 games in July with a .460 wOBA.
Over his 20 games in July, he has an impressive 49 total bases, averaging 2.45 total bases per game. He produced multiple total bases in three of his last seven games and went over this total on Friday with a double in the first game of this series.
Adames is 0-for-2 with a walk in his career against Senga but will be on the much stronger side of his splits for the season against a righty. At home against righties this season, Adames is hitting .220 with a .307 wOBA.
Even though his numbers are still low overall for the season, his recent surge and these favorable odds make this another solid plus-money value play to round out my Mets-Giants best bets.
