UPDATE: Canning has been diagnosed with an ankle injury.

In the third inning of Thursday’s game against the Atlanta Braves, Griffin Canning threw a pitch and injured his leg after planting towards the first base side of the mound and trying to move back towards the center.

Canning had to be helped off the field and moved very gingerly.

Prior to exiting, Canning pitched 2.2 innings, allowing a hit and striking out three.

On the season, Canning pitched 73.2 innings and posted a 4.09 FIP with a 21% strikeout rate. The walk rate was at 11%, though.

The Mets starting pitching has been decimated this season, as Sean Manaea, Tylor Megill, Christian Scott and Kodai Senga are all currently on the IL.
