Few players in the WNBA have more eyes on them than Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese. After a rookie All-Star campaign and a ROY runner-up finish to rival Caitlin Clark, everyone expected a big jump this season. The results have been mixed.
Chicago expected a jump this year as a team. Veterans were added by trade and free agency to make a playoff push. Last year’s 13-27 result was fine for a team mid-rebuild, but more was demanded this season. Sitting at 3-9 now, it’s hard to expect much from this Sky squad.
The team changes have most affected Reese. Her offensive responsibilities have increased significantly, with mixed results. She’s getting more usage as a high post and dribble-handoff hub, but it hasn’t benefited the team yet. Head coach Tyler Marsh is determined to make it work, but the results could be rough for some time. That isn’t likely to improve against an excellent Atlanta Dream defense.

This is an imposing defensive frontcourt for the Dream. Brittney Griner is perhaps the best paint protector in WNBA history. On top of that, Brionna Jones is a strong on-ball defender. None of this bodes well for Angel Reese.
On top of that, their perimeter defenders are excellent. They’ll double Reese and make life hard for her all over the floor. She’s scored 12+ more often than not this season, but this is a stiff contest. Her playmaking may create some buckets for the Sky, but I expect the Dream to put a lid on Reese.
