What happened to Jake Burger? Live injury updates for Rangers at Pirates Friday 6/20/25

UPDATE: Burger exited the game with left side tightness.

Rangers 1B/DH Jake Burger was replaced in the seventh inning by Ezequiel Duran during Friday’s game against the Pirates. There has been no official reason given as of yet, but he may have injured his side while striking out in the top half of the inning.

Prior to exiting, Burger went 1-for-4 with three strikeouts.

On the season, Burger has hit 10 home runs with 10 runs, 29 RBIs and one stolen base. The slash is .220/.253/.405 with a 3.3% walk rate, 25.3% strikeout rate and .185 ISO. The BABIP is only .253, so some positive regression is likely due, but the ISO is sub-.200 for the first time in his career.

Burger has DH’d six times this season while manning first base the rest. If he’s out for an extended period of time, then Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran would be the likely candidates to man first base.
