Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton exited Saturday’s game against the Houston Astros early due to a left elbow contusion, per the team.
During an at-bat in the top of the sixth inning, Buxton took a pitch to the left elbow from Astros starter Hunter Brown. Buxton remained in the game for a time and even stole second base after the HBP, but later exited during the seventh inning.
At the time he left, Buxton was 0-for-2 with a strikeout as the Twins remained deadlocked in a 2-2 game. Harrison Bader entered to replace Buxton in center field.
Buxton has been Minnesota’s best player by far this season, slashing .273/.338/.502 with 14 extra-base hits, 41 RBIs, 11 home runs, and 12 stolen bases. If he misses time moving forward, his loss will be a significant one for a 36-33 Twins squad fighting for second place in the AL Central.
