UPDATE: Dominguez was unable to swing a bat after injuring his thumb but, after the game, he said that it’s feeling better and that he’s not too “concerned.”
Jasson Dominguez was having an excellent Sunday in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. In two at-bats, he had a RBI-single and stole a base. Unfortunately, Cody Bellinger pinch hit for him in the top of the sixth inning.
On the aforementioned stolen base, Dominguez injured his left thumb while sliding into second base.
Dominguez has played in 48 of 57 games for the Yankees this season. He’s primarily been playing left field while DH’ing a handful of times. To start the season, Dominguez was batting seventh or eighth in the order, but he’s been moved up to the fifth and sixth slots.
In 188 plate appearances, Dominguez has produced six home runs, seven stolen bases, 26 runs and 24 RBI. The slash is .244/.340/.419 with a .175 ISO. The walk rate is 12.8% while the strikeout rate is 29.3%.
If he misses an extended period of time, then Ben Rice could be the beneficiary, getting more plate appearances at DH. That could adversely affect Aaron Judge to a degree, as he would likely be playing in the outfield more often.
