Ronel Blanco last pitched on May 17th, going six innings, striking out five, walking three and allowing three earned runs on five hits. On Wednesday, manager Joe Espada told reporters that Blanco had been dealing with elbow soreness. On Thursday, the Astros placed Blanco on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation, retroactive to May 20th.
LHP Colton Gordon was recalled from Triple-A.
It’s a tough blow for an Astros pitching staff that has been decimated by injuries: Spencer Arrighetti, J. P. France, Luis Garcia, Cristian Javier and Hayden Wesneski.
If there are no setbacks, complications or alterations, Blanco’s turn in the rotation would be June 3rd in Pittsburgh. As of now, there has been mention of who will be replacing Blanco in the rotation.
