Well I was wrong, it appears the NFL has bent their uniform rules for the Philadelphia Eagles this season.
I wrote just a few days ago about the Eagles not wearing their black uniform so far this season. This morning, the Eagles announced the return of the all-black alternates for their Week 18 game against the New York Giants.
Eagles are going with their black-on-black uniforms in Week 18 against the Giants. 👀 https://t.co/ZQntsQt0uD

Per the NFL themselves, alternate color helmets can only be worn with one of the club’s authorized optional uniforms (classic, alternate and/or color rush). Meaning that the team could not mix and match the alternate helmet, and they could only ever be worn with exactly one uniform combination.
In Week 1 in Brazil, the Eagles wore their black helmets with white jerseys & black pants against the Green Bay Packers. Wearing the black helmet during that game deemed that combination the Eagles’ 2024 “Alternate” uniform, meaning they should not be able to wear the black uniforms.
Why this is happening is unknown, maybe it was allowed due to the special occasion of the Brazil game. Regardless, this is an interesting twist that might open the door for more alternate helmet use in the 2025 season.
