Seven Swing States Odds as of October 17th:

Pennsylvania (19 electoral votes):
Donald Trump -125
Kamala Harris +100
Trump was able to flip Pennsylvania red for the first time since 1988 when he won in 2016. However, Joe Biden was able to turn it back to blue in the 2020 election. Pennsylvania is considered one of, if not the most important state amongst the seven.
Whomever wins Pennsylvania will have a huge advantage over the other. If Trump were to win it, he would have 15 different paths to victory while Harris would be down to 10. If Harris were to win, she would have a 10 paths to victory while Trump would be down to six. Harris winning Pennsylvania would also eliminate the slim possibility of a tie between the two candidates.

Arizona (11 electoral votes)
Donald Trump -280
Kamala Harris +220
Trump is the biggest favorite in Arizona amongst all the swing states. This would be a bounce-back after winning it in 2016 but losing it in 2020. Arizona had been primarily a Republican state prior to flipping in 2020. Before that, they hadn’t gone blue since the 1996 election in favor of Bill Clinton. At it’s current odds of -280, this implies a 73.6% chance of Trump taking Arizona.
Georgia (16 electoral votes)
Donald Trump -200
Kamala Harris +160
Another state where Trump is currently a heavy favorite, with the odds implying the chance of victory at 66.6%. Trump is looking to flip this state back after once again winning it in 2016 and losing it in 2020. Georgia going blue was also something we hadn’t seen in a long time, last doing so in 1992 for Bill Clinton.
Michigan (15 electoral votes)
Kamala Harris -125
Donald Trump +100
Michigan is one of two states where Harris is currently leading in the odds, albeit slightly. At -125, this gives her an implied probability of just 55.5%. Michigan went red in favor of Trump for the first time since 1988, when he was able to secure it during his first run. Michigan had been a loyal Democratic state prior to that before flipping back in 2020.
Its 15 electoral votes would be crucial to Harris. If she’s able to secure Michigan AND Pennsylvania, it leaves Trump one single path to victory. He would need Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona and Wisconsin. While he’s a big favorite in three of those, he’s currently tied in the odds for Wisconsin.

Nevada (6 electoral votes)
Kamala Harris -125
Donald Trump +100
Of the swing states, Nevada has the lowest number of electoral votes with six. But, don’t let that trip you up, it’s still a very important state.
If Harris were to take down both states she currently has the best odds in, it leaves Trump only four paths to victory compared to her nine. Three of those scenarios would involve Pennsylvania, which once again shows it’s importance. Nevada has been blue for the past four elections, dating back to 2008.
North Carolina (16 electoral votes)
Donald Trump -185
Kamala Harris +150
While many key states flipped in 2020, North Carolina stayed true to Trump in both elections. They’ve voted Republican over the last three elections, which included Mitt Romeny in 2016. This is another state that Trump doesn’t seem in danger of losing. Should he win North Carolina along with Georgia and Arizona, Harris would NEED to win all three of Pennsylvania, Michigan AND Wisconsin.
Wisconsin (10 electoral votes)
Kamala Harris -110
Donald Trump -110
The one and only swing state without a clear cut leader. 10 important electoral votes will come out of Wisconsin and it currently looks up for grabs. Oddly enough, you don’t hear much about rallies taking place here, as both candidates have set their focus on Pennsylvania. Nonetheless, Wisconsin flipped for Trump and then back for Biden in the last two elections. They had been a loyal Democratic state since 1988 before flipping for Trump. This came as such a shock in 2016, that Hillary Clinton didn’t even visit this state during her campaign.
