Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles
The Pick: Masataka Yoshida over 1.5 H/R/RBI -115

I really like this spot for Yoshida going up against Orioles starter Zach Eflin. He primarily throws two pitches, a sinker and a cutter, combining for 65%. These are two pitches that Yoshida handles very well, particularly the sinker. On the season, Yoshida has a massive .420 wOBA with a .229 ISO against that pitch when thrown by a righty. To give a bigger sample size, he has a similar .406 wOBA and a .232 ISO against it when you include last season as well. Yoshida has been red hot at the plate in the second-half of the season, hitting .333 with a .398 wOBA, a 155 wRC+ and eight extra base hits. Over this span, Yoshida has gone over 1.5 H/R/RBI in 13 of the 22 games he’s played, good for 59%. With the numbers he has against the two pitches Eflin throws, I like him to make it 14 of out 23 games in the second-half.

Minnesota Twins at Texas Rangers
The Pick: Twins moneyline -118

I don’t view this pitching matchup to be as close as the line indicates. Bailey Ober of the Twins has been fantastic. He enters this matchup with a 3.52 ERA and an xERA of 3.35. His command is good (2.1 BB/9) and he’s striking out of a batter per inning (9.6 K/9). Overall, the Rangers don’t have great numbers against right-handed pitching. Tonight’s expected lineup has a combined .321 wOBA with a .166 ISO and a 20% K% against righties. The last time this lineup faced Ober back in May, he allowed just two runs through five innings of work with five strikeouts.

The Twins will be facing Cody Bradford, a lefty. The Twins are a good hitting club against fastballs from them, as tonight’s expected lineup has a combined .335 wOBA with a .198 ISO and just a 17% K% against that pitch. Bradford has seen mixed results since returing on July 30th, as he’s pitched three times for a combined 10.2 innings. He’s allowed nine runs over that span but does have 15 strikeouts. With the Rangers inconsistent hitting and pitching, I think the Twins takes this one down.
