Florida State head coach Mike Norvell isn’t looking back at the past, he’s looking ahead to the future.
At least that is what he indicated to Mike Golic Jr. and Mike Golic Sr. on Wednesday’s edition of GoJo and Golic.
FSU’s head man says despite the ongoing fallout from his undefeated ACC championship squad being snubbed last year in the final season of the four-team playoff format, he isn’t looking to motivate his team by invoking the snub or looking at past circumstance. He’s focused on looking forward at the opportunity in front of them and controlling what they can control. If they take care of business, they can find a direct path to compete for a national championship. It’s all about what’s ahead, not behind.
Florida State enters the season at No. 10 in the AP Top 25 Poll released earlier this week (see Julian Edlow’s analysis here) and has +2800 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook to win the national title that eluded the Seminoles last year. Of course, this season will be the first under the new 12-team playoff format. Florida State has +140 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook to make the playoff. Despite losing key pieces from last year’s team to graduation and the NFL, the standard is still the standard for the FSU program. Norvell says the Seminoles are going to push to be best that they can be in all things they do, whether it’s on the field or off, which will help allow the team to be able to sustain the success they’ve been able to achieve as a team.
FSU’s journey toward the College Football Playoff begins with a game against Georgia Tech in Dublin on August 24. FSU is an 11.5-point favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook in that one and Norvell says that despite the unique dynamics of starting the season abroad, he feels really good about the team he has and the work that’s been in done in preparation of the trip. Ultimately, he says he feels very confident in how FSU will be able to transition the work they’ve done stateside to the overseas trip.
