The Green Bay Packers have now become the latest team to introduce an alternate helmet going into the 2024 season.
Earlier this morning, the Packers unveiled white alternate helmets to coincide with their “Winter Warning” game on October 20 against the Houston Texans. Green Bay is looking to create a similar atmosphere to Penn State’s “White Out” game by asking fans to dress all in white for the occasion.
Nearly half of the teams in the NFL have chosen a white helmet for an alternate or throwback look this season, with the Jacksonville Jaguars introducing one just last week. Other teams that have added a third white helmet include the Denver Broncos and the Minnesota Vikings. The New York Jets also announced the return of what they’re dubbing their “Classic” uniforms.
Green Bay has very rarely strayed away from their iconic yellow helmets, only using a brown shell for a throwback design back in 2010. While with other teams the whiteout design feels forced, the look is quite natural for Green Bay. In my personal opinion, I think it’s by far the best of the group from this off-season.
We are likely to see much more designs similar to this over the next season after the NFL amended the rules, allowing a third alternate helmet back in April.
These helmets will only appear with the all-white uniforms due to the NFL only allowing alternate helmets to be worn with one uniform set, not allowing for any mixing & matching.
