Opening odds for Week 17 of the NFL season

Updated:

By: Lance Cartelli

The NFL is headed into Sunday Night Football and has Monday Night Football still to play, but we’ve got some early odds to get you ready for Week 17. The penultimate week in the 2023 NFL season features some pivotal tilts with major playoff implications — including the Detroit Lions vs. Dallas Cowboys and the Miami Dolphins vs. the Baltimore Ravens.

DraftKings Sportsbook unveiled opening odds for all 18 weeks back in May after the schedule was released. Those were pulled once the regular season got underway and the sportsbook re-opened the lines for Week 17 with a look-ahead line last week. Below, we’ve included the offseason opening odds, the look-ahead line, and the current line once it re-opens.

Here’s our full list of Week 17 odds at DraftKings Sportsbook. We’ll update once the odds re-open Sunday evening.

Jets vs. Browns

Sunday, December 24

Point spread: Browns -6
Point total: 36.5
Moneyline: Browns -265, Jets +215

Wednesday, December 20

Point spread: Browns -4.5
Point total: 35.5
Moneyline: Browns -225, Jets +185

May 12

Point spread: Jets -1
Moneyline: Jets -115, Browns -105

The Jets and Browns come into their Week 17 Thursday matchup off of strong victories. New York thumped the Commanders to improve to 6-9. They were already eliminated from playoff contention, but are looking to finish strong ahead of Aaron Rodgers’ return in 2024. The Browns secured a huge victory in Week 16, beating the Texans with relative ease to move to the verge of a playoff berth. They improved to 10-5 and will have playoff-clinching scenarios against the Texans.

This is a battle of backup quarterbacks with Trevor Siemian taking over the starting job while Joe Flacco continues his impressive play since taking over as the Browns starter. The Browns’ defense is going to be the difference here. Siemian made some key plays in Week 16 against the Commanders, but don’t expect the same thing on the road against the Browns dominant defense.

Pick: Browns -6

Lions vs. Cowboys

Sunday, December 24

Point spread: Cowboys -5
Point total: 51.5
Moneyline: Cowboys -218, Lions +180

Wednesday, December 20

Point spread: Cowboys -5.5
Point total: 50.5
Moneyline: Cowboys -225, Lions +185

May 12

Point spread: Cowboys -2.5
Moneyline: Cowboys -135, Lions +115

This NFC battle has seen a change of positioning coming out of Week 16. The Lions beat the Vikings to clinch the NFC North while the Cowboys lost to the Dolphins to drop into second place in the NFC East. Detroit has moved into second place in the overall NFC standings and sits a half-game back of the 49ers and a half-game up on the Eagles.

Dallas stumbled late and continued their road woes. I think Dallas gets back on track this week, but it’s going to be a close one with a surging Detroit team.

Pick: Lions +5

Rams vs. Giants

Sunday, December 24

Point spread: Rams -6.5
Point total: 42
Moneyline: Rams -298, Giants +240

Wednesday, December 20

Point spread: Rams -6
Point total: 41
Moneyline: Rams -245, Giants +200

May 12

Point spread: Giants -3
Moneyline: Giants -150, Rams +130

The Rams got a huge win to open Week 16, beating the Saints 30-22 on Thursday Night Football to improve to 8-7. It’s their fifth win in six weeks thanks to a strong stretch by running back Kyren Williams and an impressive run from Matthew Stafford that has seen him throw 14 touchdowns to just one interception over the team’s past five games.

They will face a Giants squad closing out Week 16 on Monday at the Eagles. The Giants are 5-9 and coming off a 24-6 loss to the Saints. Tommy DeVito impressed in three straight starts but came back to earth in Week 15. The shine is off, but maybe he can get it going again ahead of this Rams matchup. I doubt it.

Pick: Rams -6.5

Titans vs. Texans

Sunday, December 24

Point spread: Texans -3.5
Point total: 42
Moneyline: Texans -185, Titans +154

Wednesday, December 20

Point spread: Texans -4.5
Point total: 43
Moneyline: Texans -218, Titans +180

May 12

Point spread: Titans -1
Moneyline: Titans -115, Texans -105

The Titans lost to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 16, falling 20-17 to move to 5-10 for the season. The Titans were already eliminated from playoff contention, so the loss doesn’t do much harm in the bigger picture of their season. Ryan Tannehill passed for 151 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions. The Texans beat the Titans 19-16 in overtime.

The Texans lost to the Browns, 36-22, in Week 16. With the loss, they move to 8-7. They still have a shot at a postseason berth in a close AFC South, but sit outside the Wild Card standings after the loss.

Pick: Texans -3.5

49ers vs. Commanders

Sunday, December 24

Point spread: 49ers -13.5
Point total: 48.5
Moneyline: 49ers -900, Commanders +600

Wednesday, December 20

Point spread: 49ers -13.5
Point total: 48
Moneyline: 49ers -850, Commanders +575

May 12

Point spread: 49ers -3
Moneyline: 49ers -150, Commaners +130

Kyle Shanahan returns once again to his former stomping grounds when the 49ers travel to face the Commanders. The 49ers could be in a position to clinch NFC home-field advantage with a win, but that will depend on Monday’s outcome against the Ravens.

They face a Commanders squad that came back from a 20-0 road deficit to the Jets only to lose on a last-second field goal. Sam Howell has proven to not be the answer and one has to wonder if Jacoby Brissett will replace him in the starting lineup the rest of the way. Brissett has been immensely better than Howell, but even if he gets the start, he’ll be facing a stout 49ers defense. Nearly two touchdowns is a lot of points to lay, but the Commanders are fairly abysmal. A lot will depend on the 49ers’ health coming out of a tough Ravens game on Monday, but for now, I’d lay the points.

Pick: 49ers -13.5

Cardinals vs. Eagles

Sunday, December 24

Point spread: Eagles -11.5
Point total: 47.5
Moneyline: Eagles -675, Cardinals +490

Wednesday, December 20

Point spread: Eagles -10
Point total: 47.5
Moneyline: Eagles -535, Cardinals +400

May 12

Point spread: Eagles -10
Moneyline: Eagles -460, Cardinals +370

This is one of the more one-sided matchups of Week 17. The Cardinals lost 27-16 to the Bears to drop to 3-12 and they’re close to securing a top-three draft pick. They face an Eagles squad playing on Monday this week and with a chance to take a one-game lead in the NFC East. The Eagles are coming off an upset loss in Seattle, but they’re in a bounce-back position against the Giants ahead of hosting Arizona.

Philly could blow out Arizona with relative ease, but I have a hunch this ends up a little closer. At 11.5, you could get a backdoor cover out of this, which wouldn’t surprise me one bit.

Pick: Cardinals +11.5

Panthers vs. Jaguars

Sunday, December 24

Point spread: Jaguars -6
Point total: 37.5
Moneyline: Jaguars -250, Panthers +205

Wednesday, December 20

Point spread: Jaguars -7.5
Point total: 39.5
Moneyline: Jaguars -355, Panthers +280

May 12

Point spread: Jaguars -5
Moneyline: Jaguars -210, Panthers +180

The Panthers nearly pulled off a win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 16, but fell 33-30. With the loss, Carolina falls to 2-13. Bryce Young passed for 312 yards and two touchdowns in the loss. They will travel to face a stumbling Jaguars squad that lost an ugly one to the Buccaneers by a final score of 30-12.

Jacksonville is still in first place, but it’s unclear if they can get things back on track. That being said, the Panthers are a bad team that could provide a rebound opportunity. The spread has come down from the lookahead line and it’s worth pouncing on the Jaguars at under a touchdown.

Pick: Jaguars -6

Falcons vs. Bears

Sunday, December 24

Point spread: Bears -3
Point total: 38
Moneyline: Bears -142, Falcons +120

Wednesday, December 20

Point spread: Bears -2.5
Point total: 37.5
Moneyline: Bears -135, Falcons +114

May 12

Point spread: Bears -2
Moneyline: Bears -125, Falcons +105

Both the Falcons and Bears got wins in Week 16. Atlanta took down the Colts in a crucial game for the Falcons’ playoff hopes, while the Bears held off the Cardinals late as Justin Fields attempts to show he’s still the franchise quarterback. Even though the Bears don’t have much to play for in terms of the postseason, there are plenty of players and coaches who want to finish the season strong for their own jobs. The Falcons are in the hunt for the NFC South but also could get into the wild card mix with their recent surge.

Pick: Falcons +3

Raiders vs. Colts

Sunday, December 24

Point spread: Colts -3
Point total: 44.5
Moneyline: Colts -162, Raiders +136

Wednesday, December 20

Point spread: Colts -3
Point total: 44
Moneyline: Colts -162, Raiders +136

May 12

Point spread: Raiders -2
Moneyline: Raiders -125, Colts -105

The Colts lost an ugly one to the Falcons in Week 16, but they’ve managed to maintain their hold on the final wild-card berth. They have Jonathan Taylor back and will look to work him back into the mix a bit more, but they have some work to do if they want to reach the playoffs. They control their fate but need to get some wins the rest of the way.

By the time this matchup happens, the Raiders will likely be eliminated from playoff contention. They will play their Week 16 contest on Monday when they face the Chiefs in Kansas City. They’re sizable underdogs and an upset seems unlikely.

Pick: Colts -3

Dolphins vs. Ravens

Sunday, December 24

Point spread: Ravens -3
Point total: 46.5
Moneyline: Ravens -155, Dolphins +130

Wednesday, December 20

Point spread: Ravens -3
Point total: 46.5
Moneyline: Ravens -155, Dolphins +130

May 12

Point spread: Ravens -1
Moneyline: Both -110

The Dolphins and Ravens face off with the No. 1 seed on the line. The Dolphins beat the Cowboys on a last-second field goal while the Ravens still have to face the 49ers on Christmas Day. This could prove to be the biggest game of the weekend and both teams are coming in hot.

Miami got over the hump against a quality opponent with their win over the Cowboys. It was a big win for them, but now they have to go on the road against a better opponent. Dallas has faced questions all year, while the Ravens have looked less fraudulent thus far. Lay the points.

Pick: Ravens -3

Patriots vs. Bills

Sunday, December 24

Point spread: Bills -13
Point total: 40.5
Moneyline: Bills -900, Patriots +600

Wednesday, December 20

Point spread: Bills -12
Point total: 40
Moneyline: Bills -700, Patriots +500

May 12

Point spread: Bills -5.5
Moneyline: Bills -225, Patriots -190

The Bills host the Patriots two months removed from an embarrassing 29-25 loss at Gillette Stadium. Buffalo has climbed back into the wild card picture with three straight wins after a poor stretch that had dropped them to 6-6. They’re now in sixth place with a 9-6 record and have control of the playoff spot with two games remaining.

They face a Patriots squad playing on Sunday night against the Broncos and likely picking in the top two or three picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. There’s always a letdown possibility, but the Bills know what the Patriots can do to them, so I think they handle their business.

Pick: Bills -13

Saints vs. Buccaneers

Sunday, December 24

Point spread: Bucs -3
Point total: 41.5
Moneyline: Bucs -162, Saints +136

Wednesday, December 20

Point spread: Bucs -2
Point total: 41.5
Moneyline: Bucs -130, Saints +110

May 12

Point spread: Saints -1.5
Moneyline: Saints -120, Bucs +100

The Saints put up a fight late against the Rams on Thursday night to open Week 16, but ultimately weren’t able to match LA in a 30-22 loss. The Buccaneers have staked their claim to the division with a dominant performance over the Jaguars, although Jacksonville’s star quarterback Trevor Lawrence was dealing with some injury issues. Tampa Bay has historically struggled against New Orleans but did get a 26-9 win over the Saints earlier in the season. The Bucs are trending in the right direction lately while the Saints appear to be faltering due to inconsistent quarterback play. Tampa is the pick in this one.

Pick: Bucs -3

Steelers vs. Seahawks

Sunday, December 24

Point spread: Seahawks -3
Point total: 41.5
Moneyline: Seahawks -155, Steelers +130

Wednesday, December 20

Point spread: Seahawks -3.5
Point total: 41
Moneyline: Seahawks -180, Steelers +150

May 12

Point spread: Seahawks -2
Moneyline: Seahawks -125, Steelers +105

The Steelers and Seahawks face off in a matchup with huge playoff implications. The Steelers thumped the Bengals in Week 16 to climb into the No. 6 position in the AFC playoff standings. The Seahawks came from behind to beat the Titans to move into the No. 7 position in the NFC playoff standings.

The biggest question heading into this matchup is Kenny Pickett’s availability. He got in limited work this past week, but Mason Rudolph’s strong performance against the Bengals might keep the Steelers conservative with Pickett’s return. Given how wild Seahawks games can be, I’ll take the points.

Pick: Steelers +3

Bengals vs. Chiefs

Sunday, December 24

Point spread: Chiefs -7.5
Point total: 45.5
Moneyline: Chiefs -380, Bengals +300

Wednesday, December 20

Point spread: Chiefs -6.5
Point total: 45.5
Moneyline: Chiefs -290, Bengals +235

May 12

Point spread: Chiefs -3.5
Moneyline: Chiefs -165, Bengals +140

The Bengals blew a big opportunity in an ugly loss to the Steelers. They dropped behind Pittsburgh after a head-to-head sweep and are on the outside looking in. They’ll face a Chiefs squad that still has to play the Raiders on Monday to close out Week 16. Kansas City has stumbled of late but is going to win the AFC West. The Chiefs beat the Patriots in less than impressive fashion last week, and that came after losing three of their previous four games. Jake Browning fell back to earth against the Steelers, and now faces a solid Chiefs defense. He likely won’t rebound.

Pick: Chiefs -7.5

Chargers vs. Broncos

Sunday, December 24

Point spread: Broncos -6
Point total: 38
Moneyline: Broncos -270, Chargers +220

Wednesday, December 20

Point spread: Broncos -6
Point total: 38
Moneyline: Broncos -265, Chargers +215

May 12

Point spread: Broncos -1
Moneyline: Broncos -115, Chargers -105

The disappointing Chargers season is nearly over. They still must face the Denver Broncos in what could be a pivotal game for Denver. The Bolts have put up a fight the last few weeks after losing QB Justin Herbert to a season-ending finger injury. Stick should be serviceable for a team that hasn’t quite quit … yet.

The Broncos battle the Patriots on SNF this week and have been playing better this season after a rough start. Russell Wilson might not be at the peak of his powers anymore, but a strong running game and defense and a few moonshot deep balls to Courtland Sutton have been all they’ve needed to get to second place in the AFC West and in striking distance of a playoff spot if they get a little lucky.

Despite being the better team, the Broncos covering six points might be a little too rich for how the Chargers have been playing recently. We’ll take the Chargers and the points.

Pick: Chargers +6

Packers vs. Vikings

Sunday, December 24

Point spread: Vikings -1
Point total: 45
Moneyline: Vikings -115, Packers -105

Wednesday, December 20

Point spread: Vikings -2
Point total: 43.5
Moneyline: Vikings -125, Packers +105

May 12

Point spread: Vikings -2.5
Moneyline: Vikings -130, Packers +110

The Packers narrowly pulled off a win over the Carolina Panthers in Week 16, winning 33-30 to move to 7-8. They still sit behind the Vikings on the playoff bubble and currently have the ninth overall spot in the NFC standings. Green Bay was playing without multiple key starters on offense this game, and the Packers will hope to have those guys back for this crucial game. The Vikings are on the outside looking in when it comes to the postseason, but this is still a rivalry game against a hated division foe. Nick Mullens will want to recover from a four-interception showing against the Lions, and the Minnesota home crowd will look for this team to bounce back from that loss. This game is a toss-up according to the books, but the team with more to gain from a playoff standpoint ultimately pulls this off.

Pick: Packers +1.5
