It’s a Tuesday night in November in the NBA, and the Boston Celtics lead the Bulls by 25 points with a minute left in the fourth quarter and ... several starters are still in the game? And they’re flying around the court and diving for loose balls like it was a Game 7 in June? What’s gotten into these guys?
Credit to Adam Silver and the NBA for rolling out an incredibly fun new wrinkle within the NBA regular season schedule this year via the inaugural In-Season Tournament. We’re already seeing promising early returns with performances like the one from Tuesday, where the Celtics knew they had to win by 23+ points (and bank on the Brooklyn Nets escaping the Toronto Raptors) in order to win Group C and advance to the quarterfinals. And if things were this intense in the Group stage, just imagine what’s next as the action shifts to a single-elimination format next week.
